"supposedly" being the key term. It turns out not to have been the best young roster. Not even close in hindsight.

I always had this team in contention for a low playoff seed this year just on the fact that Karl-Anthony Towns is an All-NBA talent and that D'Angelo Russell is a much better player than Andrew Wiggins -- and dare I say that Russell is a former All-Star (KG4Ever is going to love that one). I don't know if they'll actually make the playoffs though based on how little this roster cares about defense and rebounding, but that's where I'm at. We'll be in the hunt at least.

With all of that said, I'm still very unsatisfied with how this off-season played out. I think my feelings about every decision and acquisition are understood by now so I won't reiterate them. Where these mistakes will hurt most, however, is in a couple seasons. Passing on James Wiseman and trading the 17th overall pick won't particularly harm this franchise in 2020-21. Those are moves that I expect us to cringe at in the future.

Exactly.

Those kinds of accolades were doled out with the expectation that Andrew Wiggins (bless him) was going to improve and be an All NBA or even All Star type of player. And that Towns would continue to improve. And that other players (LaVine) and piece parts (along with picks) would get better.

Potential and Promise are platitudes that mean absolutely nothing in the NBA. Eventually, we'll figure that out.

And eventually, we'll expect teams with two PROVEN all-stars to win more than 30 games... and we won't have to take big swings at finding more legitimate max-contract worthy players to complement them. Only the shittiest of the shitty teams continue to employ this approach.

Yet here we are -- going on two decades -- and many are still falling for it. Heck, here we are -- going on two decades -- and the only team to win more than 1/2 its games is considered a tragic, catastrophic failure.

If we don't demand more from this franchise... why should anything change? We're the rubes accepting it.

Guys I appreciate the feedback on this, and again, I hope my comments look foolish in a few months. But what about the fact we've pretty much emptied our clip? I mean an argument can be made that in his short tenure, Rosas has done a disastrous job. Maybe we get lucky and Edwards saves the day but that seems like a stretch right now.

You guys that have been around here for a long time know I'm not a chronic pessimist. But I'm sorry, this year and this rebuild seems to lack a plan. I guess we hope Edwards is the savior. They better play him a lot to see what we have.

That's basically it. If Edwards hits... a lot of stuff doesn't matter.

And as a #1 pick... he just might.

So. We hope.

Quietly, I feel like Gersson Rosas might already be starting the rebuild around Anthony Edwards while seeing if he can get the team to be somewhat competitive in the short-term. If this core doesn't work, and there's reason to suggest that it won't, then the sell-off will commence and Karl-Anthony Towns as well as D'Angelo Russell will be dealt for assets that compliment Edwards as the new centerpiece of this franchise.

That's another reason why I was hoping that James Wiseman would be the pick at number one because I think he'd be an easier piece to build around, but Rosas doesn't think that way.

I agree, it's part of the Rosas experience I'm not too impressed with.

Maybe. I gotta see just how good Wiseman is offensively before I proclaim him to be a franchise player. It's not easy to build around bigs. You still need a solid wing, too.

I think Rosas improved the team from the beginning of last year. We were always around a 30 win team from the talent we had last year. I think we will be mid 30s. This doesnt make me super enthusiastic, but Im not quite ready to start criticizing Rosas' plan for the eventual rebuild either. Lets at least wait for the KAT is leaving rumors for that.
