But he'd have to be fucking awful to compete with Kahn for overall ineptitude.
Kahn was an embarrassing, over-his-head (but convinced he was smarter than everybody) type of GM. And that's the worst kind. If it gets to that point... we can walk through all the moves one-by-one for a comparison. But we're not close yet.

That is fair. This year will answer it.
I think it is impossible to know even after this season whether Rosas has made correct picks or not because drafted players are nowadays so young.
Even if Edwards turns out to be next Vince Carter, it might take at least four years before we know it as Carter had his breakout season at age 23.

Let's say that's the case.
Did Rosas possibly miss on the pick even if the player pans out? If it takes that long for Edwards to break out... there's a VERY GOOD chance that the Wolves will have undergone an almost total remake. Towns could be gone, along with every other current player (sans Edwards) along with Rosas himself.
So then, it's Edwards with a new regime and the next re-re-re-build with him staring down an extension and hoping the team can be built around him.

That was my point that I obviously did not articulate well. Rosas came in with a good base. Not many can say that coming here.
I think post Butler trade to now Rosas has done a pretty decent job in building a roster that has some balance, and some youth that could develop into nice pieces. The big question mark still seems to be the scouting and talent evaluation on the young kids. But not that the roster is taking place I think he has achieved as much balance as any of the Kahn teams. If it turns out that all of his draft picks flop then you have to start making the Kahn comps. He's got a year before we can start doing that. But if we get the #4 pick and Golden State selects a superstar next year, we're probably looking at yet another Pobo.
Book is still out on Rosas but he is nowhere near Kahn
He took 2 of the worst contracts in the NBA in Gorgui and Wiggins and turned that into.
Russell, Rubio, Ed Davis and 2 late 1sts. Only think that can come back to haunt is a pick that at worse would be #4. I won't complain that he took 2 negative assets and got legit value out of them.

I don't see how Dieng's contract is nearly that bad. It would expire this season. Is it any worse than James Johnson's contract?

When Kahn took over the Wolves it was honestly not a bad gig. The Wolves had Al Jefferson a double double machine (coming off a 23-11 season On a good contract), a promising Kevin Love Who almost averaged a double double playing most of his games off the bench And Pekovic over in Europe. Corey Brewer had just finished up his rookie season. There was also some future picks that could be used to fill out the roster and make moves. Mike Miller was a nice player and Foye had just turned in a nice enough season. Gomes had put together another Solid season. To Kahn's credit he moved Foye and Miller for good value for that first round pick. What did that team really need and had needed for years? A PG!!!! And that draft was LOADED with them. The ability to turn the franchise around (the roster wasn't completely barren of talent) was there even if some of the other players like Brewer and Gomes (Kahn wisely didn't want to pay him) didn't turn out to be very good.

I think the way Rosas has transformed this team over a single season is pretty amazing. While every single transaction or move can be heralded, lambasted or yawned at, I cannot help but notice the growing opTIMism about the team as it is currently constructed. For those with access to TheAthletic (they are running a $1/month promo right now), Jon K. posted an informative article including insider information that may help quell some of the anti-Rosas takes we have seen recently:
Mentioned are the attempts to move up in the draft for Saddiq Bey or Precious Achiuwa. Derrick Jones Jr, Paul Millsap, Jae Crowder and JaMychal Green were all FA contacts. And draft night trades were explored for Aaron Gordon, PJ Tucker and Larry Nance Jr. It seems Juancho was not necessarily a first choice at PF, where the Wolves were not willing to pay Juancho what he wanted.
Rosas has certainly built up a number of tradeable assets (although no 1st rounders). I certainly wouldn't be surprised if he pursues some of those PF names in the future.
Any way, I just thought it worth noting that Rosas has done some really good things in his short stint with the Wolves. And given some of the people he has surrounded himself with both in the FO and on the coaching staff, I can't help but feel encouraged about the direction the Wolves are headed.
I stood up for Rosas after year one liked that he didn't give any FA's last year terrible contracts. Liked how he found undrafted talent on the cheap. Enjoyed that he gave up quickly on his FA's that just didn't pan out or fit and didn't blame him on having to dump Wiggins or go get DLO because his hand was forced in those situations in my opinion. I gave him a good grade.
Year two however I have to start questioning some moves a little more. I would give him a poor grade for draft night for reasons mentioned in another post. Basically thought we gave away #33 for nothing, might have even been able to get Rubio for #33. Should have cleared a roster spot with two separate draft day trades but instead burned another 2nd to do so after the draft. However he brought back Beasley and Hernangomez which I think are decent assets and not overpriced. RHJ was a player I wanted and he brought him in. I expect he knows the value of J-Mac and will figure out a way to bring him back. I guess I think he could do better but can't say it's terrible. I think he should be evaluated closely but at the same time do feel like the current roster will be more completive this year.
