Kemba was really playing bad d on Teague. I think he had open looks all game, but Thibs played these guys way too long again. We had a 20 point lead with 5 minutes left and the bench was holding. No reason to bring in Kat and co.
UGH.
Even when he makes it... no. No. NO!!!
I don't know why they seem to be encouraging that instead of taking it out of his repertoire completely.
He's part of the generation the grew up watching Kobe. It's gonna be really hard to remove it from the arsenal because for a long time that was the gold standard. He also doesn't have the handle to just get to the rim at will like a Harden so he's gonna get stopped and shoot that shot on occasion. We really just need to take away the early shot clock attempts from that range and that will help.
The ones I don't like that he takes are the ones where he is basically a step inside the 3 point line. He had just one of those last night which he did make. The other ones he took were deeper were he is shooting more of a free throw range shot which still might not be a great shot but feels like he worked harder to get the position and he would be a step closer to the basket to possibly get his own miss.
Lip, it's funny you would highlight Cole Aldrich's contributions. We commented last night that Aldrich is by far the most animated guy on bench watching on television, we went so far last night as to speculate that he might watch his bench highlights when he gets home at night. The thing I noticed last night was how engaged, not perfect, but fully engaged Wiggins was on the defensive end and how at least partially engaged he was in rebounds. He didn't pull a ton of boards, but he impacted our ability to rebound efficiently by with his movement.

I love Teague's box score and seeing that he completely dominated Walker, and also love the contributions of Taj and Gorgui. Cute story about Gorgui...he's one of my favorite players, and I'm glad he's settling into his backup center role and getting effective regular minutes.
Cole is not needed in the rotation right now, but I'm afraid he will be in a couple years...when it comes time to pay our Big 3 plus Teague, there simply won't be room for Gorgui's contract, even though it looks attractive right now. Cole will still be young enough to replace G in the backup center role at an affordable price, so it's nice to hear he has such a good rapport with his teammates. Not to say that it won't be a big drop off from G to him, but I'm afraid it will be a necessity to stay out of the lux tax.
I don't know if Cole Aldrich is still in the NBA after this contract.
There's less and less of a role for him each passing day as the game keeps changing and evolving.
I don't necessarily disagree about Cole, Abe, but my point was more that we will not be able to afford a $15 million back up center once we have to pay our 4 $20 million guys, so we will need to find a cheaper alternative to back up KAT. In an ideal world, Patton will develop and fill that role on a cheap rookie contract. But regardless, we don't have the luxury of getting too attached to Gorgui.
On the Athletic Jon K had his first mailbag and someone asked about Dieng being a guy that could be moved. Jon said he didn't see it right now but it's possible down the road at some point. He said what he does know is there are teams that really like him.
As for Cole I have doubts he is even on the roster next year as they can let him go and save 5 million bucks. Heck they could let him go and resign him to the vet min and it would still save them over 3 million. The Wolves are in a good position to get some players on a cheaper contract to help offset some of the more expensive guys.
There is a couple years yet till we have to make a move on Dieng and who knows maybe he becomes really valueable either to us or other teams during that time. I have a feeling that if things are going well Glen is gonna find a way to pay up to win. Dieng is more versatile than the average backup guy that's gonna be hoping for the best the next offseason or 2.

Yeah, I think we all agree that Gorgui is a terrific backup center, and that he will be difficult to replace. But with the Big 3 taking up about $90 million in two years and Teague and Taj adding another $35 million on top of that, we are at $125 million for 5 players...Gorgui would make it $140 for just 6 players. The reality is we are going to enjoy Gorgui for no more than 2 years, and probably the same for either KAT or Wig...Glen will go out and get some cheaper replacements for them, but might still be in the luxury tax. Swapping Teague for Ricky has made this puzzle just that much more complex.
On Dieng - He is finally in the role many thought was perfect for him on a really good team: Backup Center. After a rough start, it appears that he's getting his act together and filling the role real nicely. If we ever lose KAT for a stretch, having that depth at Center will be huge for us.
On Wig's shot selection - While he still launches his fair share of tough shots, his shot selection has improved. He is taking fewer long 2's and more 3's as a total percentage of his shots. As a result, he is at a career high in eFG% at 51.6%. While not super elite, that is still very good. What's killing him is his awful sub-60% free throw percentage. If he could get that back up near 80% and keeps doing his shot distribution as-is, he will be the efficient scorer we need him to be.

I understand where you are from on the money thing but we would of had to pay ricky also and don't say he would of taken a pay cut, the next contract ricky gets will more than likely be the last time ricky can get a big deal. His agent will suck of he can't get a similar deal as hill, Teague and holiday.
The trade also allows us to add cheap talent with the draft pick. We have to hit on our draft picks to continue future success and the ricky trade in my opinion allows us to do it.
I agree though in 2 years dieng will probably have to be moved

Classic case of overvaluing our own players. G is a decent/nice nba player. He's the type of player you look to replace to find a cheaper alternative. Every Good nba team has a player of Gorgi's value comin off the bench, and in most cases on much cheaper contract.
Lip, good report. Tibs reaction to that Towns pass in the 4th was caught on the telecast. I was yelling just like Tibs was.
I was very happy with Wigs game last night. Loved some of the passes he was making. Just the simple pass to not stop the ball, as well has passing off this dribble penetration to get looks for teammates.
I think Bulter's role of being a facilitator is very intention on his part, modeling to Towns and Wig you don't have to jack up 20-25 shots a game to be effective, it looks like it might be having an impact on the way Wig plays. He was also way more engaged on defense consistently throughout the game. Nice to see for sure!!
I think the move to be made would be to trade G for a combo wing to upgrade from Bazz once Patton is up and running either this year or next. Crawford is nice, but he's a short-term guy because of his age. Butler misses about 15-20 games a year. We need someone who can play both spots to shore up the rotation. Teague/Tyus, Butler/Wiggins/new guy, Belly/Gibson/KAT/Patton. Also there's no point talking about needing to trade KAT or Wiggins to make the money work. It's not happening. Wiggins and Towns just aren't going anywhere. The rest of the roster will be traded away before that happens. I think the biggest worry for me this offseason is I believe Belly is up for a new deal and he's been an important glue guy bench piece for us. I'd hate to see him get sniped and us be left with Towns/Gibson/G because that's an expensive frontcourt for not really being a new age NBA frontcourt rotation. I'd rather keep Towns/Belly/Gibson and let the cheaper Patton replace G than Belly.
