Rubio trade

Post by Duke13 »

This is a bit premature maybe, I realize that. And it isn't going to fix all of our issues we as a team have, Which I think is mainly youth. But let's assume Dunn continues to show signs of getting it and puts together a stretch of 15-20 games of steady play. I would love to see Dunn play well enough and inserted in the starting lineup, I don't think there's any question that's Tibs' vision also. I don't see Rubio accepting a backup role and don't necessarily blame him for that. I think Tyus has shown the ability to organize and run a team especially on the offensive side of the ball. What is reasonable to get back in a deal for Rubio? There isn't a whole lot of demand for PGs in the league right now in my opinion.

I'm trying to comes this from an unbiased point of view. People won't prolly click on this thread concisering the source but curious what you guys think. It seems even the Rubio supporters are realizing his limitations. Thoughts?

At this point it won't look pretty but I'll bite.

Wolves Trade Ricky Rubio to the Atlanta Hawks for Tiago Splitter and a 2018 Atlanta 1st round pick.

The value is putrid. There would be something better than that. At least get a good defensive wing.

Im trying to be realistic at this point. I would hope you're right but reality may be cap room and a pick.

I would guess the value is at role player or maybe 2 level. He doesn't fit in today's NBA style at all and you're asking the other team to take a leap of faith that his down year has more to do with Thibs than him just playing bad. Also if they are trading for him to be a backup on a good team, you aren't going to get more than a backup in return.

We're likely looking at Houston, Dallas, Sacramento, Philadelphia, and Milwaukee. Maybe Chicago, Utah, and Miami.

Sign and trade for Montiejunas? 3 way trade with Dallas sending Bogut somewhere? Gay? Casspi? Noel? Delly? Rondo? Burks? Dragic?

Why Houston? The Harden experiment seems to be working.
Why Milwaukee? The Giannis things seems to be working... although on second thought... they have Delly doing being a sort of Rubio-lite there. Is Rubio a big of enough upgrade for them to take on his salary? Does Rubio still work there when Middleton returns?
Why Utah? Hill seems like a great fit, although he's a FA. But what about Exum's promise?

As much as I like Rubio and value him I don't have real high hopes for a return for him. If this team got a 1st and cap space I actually wouldn't hate the deal in the context of the premise of this thread.

I was thinking the same way. I thought the Atlanta angle was a bit interesting too because they could seriously fall off the map in a few years with an aging core. But it is depressing to see how far reality has dragged this topic. Remember when we were debating whether Kyrie or Rubio would be better in the long run?

Morey is a Rubiobo. Bucks have wanted him. Honestly all of these scenarios are iffy. It's a point guard heavy league and supposedly a point guard heavy draft. Might be best to have him as the backup.
