The D was pretty awful for the most part. Their guards went off with a lot of activity and cutting. It was too much for Zach, Rubio, and even Dunn to handle. Quick active guards will continue to kill us because Rubio is too slow and Zach is too unaware.
Rubio had ZERO help on a couple plays Mudiay scored layups. I'm not suggesting Rubio was awesome but there was on time he forced Mudiay baseline and there was nobody in the paint and Mudiay had a layup. To Denver's credit they had some good offensive possessions but the defense we saw a couple games ago wasn't there a lot of this game. It's a shame.

You're absolutely right that the help was late or absent. But my point is that Rubio and Zach always need help, even for some really basic cuts.

Unfortunately all of our guards struggle with this. I've seen Wiggins get face cut and fail to guard inbound passes enough times to lump him in with Muhammad, LaVine, and Rubio in this regard. Our best perimeter defender is a rookie. That's not really a good thing.

I agree the guard struggle off the ball overall. A lot of it's just discipline. I also want to add that to my eye Bazz has improved dramatically defending guys moving without the ball. I'm certainly not suggesting he is great but the guy was absolutely awful in this area early in the season that he made Martin look like a defensive savant. His awareness and discipline has been a pleasant surprise and he obviously doesn't have the physical gifts to defend on the perimeter like Lavine and Wiggins. I just chimed in on this because I think he deserves some credit for some legit improvement on that end.
