SAB is lighting it up in GSW

Post by Wolvesfan21 »

Only 3 games in but he has career high AVGS so far in points, assists, steals, blocks, shooting percentage and FTA.

No surprise he is actually playing hard for once. Like he did in MN once or twice a year.

Heck, he played really well for around the first 15-20 games for the Wolves, so we've seen much longer stretches of really good play. He almost had me fooled, but inevitably, he regressed to the average-ish at best player he's always been. It happens every time.

I guess the difference is that he's in a better organization with true leadership on and off the court. And he'll be put in more favorable situations. I'm on record claiming he'd be a better player elsewhere.

I just caution those who will inevitably chime in with "See! He is so much better than you guys said he was, he just needed more time."

Everybody, if they're being honest with themselves, on both sides, knows that Wiggins in Minnesota had run its course. It was better for Andrew Wiggins to get out of this situation.

I can't see the even most ardent Wiggins fans saying he was making the moves necessary to excel here. I proposed the DLO for Wiggins trade a month or two ago, it made sense for both teams. I expect Wiggins to be a better player in GSW, for one, he really can't be much worse and two he is going to a good situation with the veteran coaching and player leadership.

He really has no choice but to fall in line. Wiggins working out in MN was never going to work. He's a nice 3rd or 4th option/6th man type. He can carry some load when Steph and Klay are on the bench. It's a nice situation for him.

He's a more athletic/talented, worse at defending/rebounding Jeff Green. You could maybe make the argument the only cause for statistical differences in their career (PPG mostly) is due to usage rate. People fell into the same trap with Jeff Green as they are Wiggins... "if only he were in situation X... if only he had a real leader/coach... if only..." After 12 seasons in the NBA of unrecognized potential, what did Jeff Green become? A solid, if unspectacular spot-starter and regular bench mob guy.

Wiggins is fool's gold, and we should be happy we no longer have to ride the "potential" roller coaster with him. Some people ride coasters for the thrill of the drop, but ultimately the ride goes in a circle to nowhere.

Im so glad we've moved on to these high motor, blue collar group of players that give their all on both sides of the floor.

Wet blanket stat for Wiggins GS tenure...2.7 rebounds a game. The blocks steals are a surprise and he is hitting shots. I honestly hope Wiggins does well in GS even the guys on Dunc'd on podcast said he has raised his value this season but they still thought he was still a significant negative contract. He is going to get to be the guy in GS most of the rest of the year. It's quite possible he will do well. It would be funny in a way if GS ended up flipping him for a different player this offseason. I doubt it but I've seen stranger things.
