Jaden McDaniels...

Post by Sundog »

... is not mentioned in this article listing the top 25 small forwards in the NBA: https://hoopshype.com/lists/ranking-top-25-small-forwards-2022-23-season-lebron-giannis-kawhi-butler/

I'd at least put him in this list ahead of Kuminga... what do you guys think? Am I just being a homer, or are folks sleeping on Jaden? (I guess "both" could be an acceptable answer, lol)

Actual vs. Projection/Potential.
Although, like many lists, that one is terrible and only for clickbait... ahem, ahem... it got you to mention it and me to click it. WIN WIN WIN!!!

Kelly Oubre should not be on ANY top list for anything.

We need to see Jaden McDaniels develop from potential to production. That's essentially the [educated] gamble the Timberwolves are making on him this off-season. We know he has exciting physical tools and skills to compliment them, but he has to be able to translate that into meaningful contributions on the floor over the course of an 82-game season. Through his first two seasons we've only gotten just a taste, so to speak. He's had some brilliant moments/games, but to be ranked on lists like these he's going to have to play better and more consistently.

May be they still have him slotted as a PF (that's where he played the majority of his minutes last year)??

Either way, hard to rank him much higher than somewhere in the 20s given his struggles with fouling and very mediocre offensive output.

Of course we all hope he'll keep improving, because the potential is definitely there.

He hasn't been a full time starter until now, so it's not a total shock to seem him omitted. I think he will be in the top 25 next year.

I noticed the omission, Sundog. It think it was fair. I'm excited about McDaniels' potential. But he needs to show more on the court to be among the top 25 SFs in my view.

Pretty much agree with everyone who commented above. If he isn't in the top 25 SF next year I think it would be a super disappointing season from mcdaniels. Right now Mcdaniels is a streaky shooter, who is a max 2 dribble guy, good slasher and an elite defender but fouls way to much (top 10 in league in fouls but only 25 minutes a game)

You see all the tools though you be a top tier 3 and D player and possibly more. Super ok with him not being in the top 25 SF but a little worrisome if he doesn't crack that list this year

Except they had guys that actually played PF in this list. I thought about stop scrolling when they had Oubre in the list but then they added a guy in Bogdonovic who literally was Utah's PF for how many years?

I'm not really upset McDaniels didn't make the list though. I'm sure he is fuming at the omission and it's going to drive him to greatness this year! :)

Heh, good point on Bogdonovic. Come to think of it, Durant shouldn't be on this list either. That guy has been playing mostly PF for a few years now!

Gah! "Top XYZ Lists" are clickbait unless it's from one of the more reputable analytics sites or gurus. Not that those lists are the holy grail of truth either, but at least they know what positions people play!

Hoops Hype has become more legit (they do an especially good job on salaries) the last couple years so I had a little bit higher expectations. I also think these lists are subjective it's hard at some point to rank guys you could go a bunch of different directions and have some solid reasoning behind it.

Not sure how much SF Gordon Hayward plays either. Speaking of the Hornets I wonder which guy really plays SF Oubre or Bridges. Might as well rank all 3 on that list! Speaking of that...they have Josh Hart as a SF. Emphasis on the small if that's the case. Before the Pelicans traded him away apparently they had 3 of the top 25 SF in the NBA according to this list!!! Just to be clear I think Josh Hart is a good player. I just consider him a guard not a forward.
