He was the sideline announcer /sub for Ian Eagle with the Brooklyn Nets.
Y'all are gonna love him. He knows his stuff. Pretty even keeled. Also did some Yankees pregame stuff once in a while (YES airs Yankees and Nets games) and worked as the PA announcer for the Pacers before he took the Nets job.

Re: Michael Grady is the new PBP announcer for the Wolves
I know nothing about this guy. I couldn't find any examples of him doing play-by-play. But I just watched some videos of him doing sideline reporting. I also watched the following video of him being interviewed about the Nets losing streak:
https://youtu.be/bhFPIjrdeD8
My overall take-away is that he's smart, articulate, knows something about basketball and has a great relatable personality. He seems really likable and has some charisma. He's relative young at age 39 and seems like someone who will relate well to players as well as members of the Wolves coaching staff and front office. Again, I have no idea what kind of play-by-play announcer he'll be. I read somewhere that he's even keeled. I don't exactly see that characteristic as a positive for a home-team play-by-play announcer. I think it's important to get excitement and enthusiasm from you team's play-by-play guy. I grew up in Chicago with Harry Carey as the Cubs play-by-play guy. That's my ideal for a home-team play-by-play guy. Kevin Harlan is another great example. We'll see. But based on the little I've seen, Michael Grady seems like an impressive guy.

The Timberwolves facebook has a post about him with (what I assume) is audio of him calling games vs the Twolves: https://fb.watch/e_4qkHKGFh/https://fb.watch/e_4qkHKGFh/
Seems like he has that good "excited voice" like the good/great PBP guys have. Maybe the wolves are better at finding broadcast talent than on-court talent!

Thx for that, Dave...sounds like a good PBP voice. Odd that the big-spending new owners went with a sideline guy rather than stealing an established PBP guy, but WW's endorsement is good to hear. I wanted Gus, but I'm on board with this.
Re: Michael Grady is the new PBP announcer for the Wolves
He seems like a guy with a pretty good resume at least as good as what Dave Benz had when he was hired. Grady has more NBA and pro basketball play by play experience through. I don't mind that the guy they ended up with isn't an established guy but he also has done some games at this level and for a good network. I'm not thrilled or anything yet but I'm also not like who the heck is this dude?!? Give us back Benz!!!!
He does seem like a good dude it's pretty cool how he grew up a Pacers fan and ended up working games and even working games as the PA guy. He stopped playing HS ball to start calling games instead.
I watched some video of him in various situations. He has the voice for the job. He seems to have enthusiasm and also seems to be reasonably thoughtful. It should be fun to hear him on the Wolves broadcasts. I may not fast forward through FTs etc for the first few games at least. lol
I'm cool with moving on but I just want to say again that Dave Benz is a good guy who did some great work as a broadcaster with the wolves and I wish him the best. I'm sure he will have no problems finding employment and enjoying whatever it is.

I've run into him personally a bunch of times and obviously hear him a lot during Nets games. Real good dude. Midwestern guy so this will hardly be culture shock for him. Always good with fans. He had a little show of his own on YES where he'd interview people from his house
Ian Eagle, Sarah Kustok, and Michael Grady might have been the best local broadcast of any NBA team (and Ryan Ruocco also fills in when Ian Eagle is out). They were better than the Knicks, Hornets, or any other local team you like from afar. That's high praise. If nothing else, he learned from some of the best in the biz and the players are gonna love him. He's already familiar with D'Lo from when he was a Net. I'd be stunned if there wasn't instant rapport between guys like Ant, JMac, Nowell, KAT and Grady because Grady was one of the few guys who could actually get KD and Kyrie to talk during last year's debacle of a season in Brooklyn. They never brushed him off the way they tend to do with other media members.
If anything I'm surprised he got the gig now, but he was working towards it by adding on more gigs (Liberty, Yankee pregame. You could put him in any role and it'll work)

He had a bit of Gus Johnson enthusiasm based on that clip. I wonder if he was Plan B after Gus?
I didn't have any issues with Benz, but hoping this guy brings some fresh energy. I have also always liked J-Pete, but now I wonder if that spot needs a fresh face as well eventually. I get why you wouldn't want to do a complete makeover in one season, as I do think fans value some continuity and its good to have a guy like J-Pete that has all the institutional knowledge of the fanbase - he understands the hell we've been through, LOL!
