Lots of talks about wolves getting faried...

Post by Crazysauce »

Not sure but have heard we are in discussions to deal for faried.

Heard pek 5 and bazz for faried and 7. If that is the case you take that all day. Is this real life?

If that's the deal, I take it in a heartbeat. Would be a huge win for us. To me the talent difference between the guy we'll get at 5 and 7 isn't going to be huge. Plus we'll at a good starting PF. This trade is a win for us.

I haven't seen anywhere that that's the deal, so if you have a link that'd be nice. I know some Wolves bloggers were throwing that idea around on Twitter, but it seemed they were doing that after the Sporting News rumor came out as they tried to piece together a hypothetical deal -- much like we do here.

I can't see Denver taking back Pekovic, but in that deal, I'd very much want them to mainly because we're trading the higher pick and a 23-year old bench scorer still on his rookie deal.

At No. 7, we'd probably still have our choosing of Bender, Hield, or Brown. So, we're still getting what looks like a good prospect.

Doubt this deal happens, however.

Suffice it to say, I would love that deal for the Wolves. We've talked a lot about this team needing more 3-point shooting and I agree. But we also need better rebounding and toughness and those are things Faried would bring to the table in a big way. He averaged 12.5 points, 0.9 blocks and 8.7 boards per game last season in 25.3 minutes. That's 14.8 points 1.06 blocks and 10.3 rebounds per 30 minutes. Very nice numbers. He brings great energy. A hard worker who does the dirty work. He would fit really well in a rotation with KAT and Gorgui. Add Cole Aldrich to the mix and you have a strong foursome up front at the C and PF positions for a reasonable price.

Why would Denver do the deal? First, they might like Bazz and lot and think they could use another scorer. Second, they may have someone targeted at #5 who they think may not be available at #7. Finally, they may see value in swapping the 3 years left on Faried's contract for the 2 years left on Pek's, especially if Pek is likely to do a medical retirement before next season in which case the Nuggets could potentially free up significant cap space for next summer's impressive free agent pool. So I don't think it's crazy for the Nuggets to have interest in this deal. I hope they do because I'd see this as a really good one for the Wolves.

I wonder if the Wolves and Nuggets would do this deal before the draft without knowing who will be available at the #5 and #7 slots. If they do the deal before the draft, then I wonder who would be available at #7 for the Wolves. I'm thinking that Dunn will go #3 either to Boston or to some team that does a deal with Boston for that pick. I see the Suns taking Chriss, Bender or Brown. Then I see Denver at #5 taking Hield who they apparently love. Finally, I see the Pelicans taking Murray at #6.

If that's the scenario and Bender is still available would you take him at #7? If Bender is gone who would you take at #7? Chriss? Brown? Poeltl? Sabonis? Dejounte Murray? Or would you trade down again with someone else and draft Bembry while also picking up an additional asset (another player or a future pick)? Lots of possibilities.

Lots of permutations and possibilities.

No link for that part, have heard from friends about trade parts and a guy who said he has a source inside the wolves said that faried would be in a wolves jersey by end of the season. Dont know that guy well so its really just hearsay.

Lip, if we did this hypothetical deal, we'd have our choosing of one of the remaining top five players: Jamal Murray, Dragan Bender, Kris Dunn, Buddy Hield, and Jaylen Brown. Obviously, I'm counting on Ben Simmons and Brandon Ingram going No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.

This deal would also not go down before Minnesota and Denver sees who's available at both spots. When you're trading up for a player, you make sure he's there before you make the deal. You don't gamble with that.

Also, if we're adding Faried and sending Muhammad out, I think that means we'd be looking to take whoever is remaining out of Murray, Hield, and Brown. If Murray is somehow still available, I'd jump up and down and feel like I just fleeced Denver by getting a solid young veteran AND the guy I wanted all along.

Good point about Pekovic's deal being shorter than Faried's, but I think there's a difference in Faried being an active, quality player whereas Pekovic is deadweight.

I think you nailed it here. Getting both Murray and Faried would have me geeked even more than I am now.
