They just had him talk about the trade talks for Butler and it was all MN was hunting for Butler and Chicago at the end of the day just couldn't bear to part with Butler. We're the team with assets better than Butler so if we really really wanted him we would have him. Chicago tried to be greedy and we shut them down. I hate it when BSPN spews bullshit to favor bigger markets and make us look like thirsty dogs begging for a drink.

In order for no deal to get done requires both sides to have said no, doesn't it? Obviously Chicago felt Thibs was being greedy in wanting a Top15 player on the cheap.

Could it be so simple as this?

Chicago:

Hey we really want Dunn

Minny:

Hey we really want Butler

Both teams offer some sort of compensation neither team agrees to it but say hey keep in touch hoping the other one decides to crack. Chicago probably never offered Butler. I bet Minny never offered Lavine. Both teams wanted a player or asset/Dunn the other team had so maybe they kept in contact. We will likely never know but I would have been either surprised and/or really disappointed if that Butler deal went through because I think we would have had to give up Lavine to make it happen and that was a deal breaker for me.

Agreed!

I don't think you could give Payne away at this point. No need to wring your hands about 2nd round picks. Unless of course you want to gloat if they actually do make it in the league ;)

You're on to me, Volans! :)

Agreed. Let it play out this season, look at trades next season if potential comes to reality.

Is his value more likely to be higher now or after he gets beat out by a rookie ?

If he is valued by NBA teams like he is valued by you then it likely doesn't matter..

No relevance there .
But the fact that he has been shopped leads me to believe the team doesn t value him as much as fans on here do

Was he really shopped at all? Thibs mentioned Ricky by name a couple days ago and Lip confirmed the significance of that. There was a mess of rumors today, most of which did not make any sense. Either way, if Dunn shows that he is good enough to take over by the trade deadline or next offseason, the Wolves are in fantastic shape because it means Dunn is a special player. Ricky is going to be Ricky regardless of how Dunn does. If he is beat out by Dunn it will have no impact on Ricky's value. There is no law that says a team can't have two outstanding point guards and this would put the Wolves in a position of power if they decided a need to trade one or the other.

Well Inam not exactly sure what they are trying to do with The Verticle but it's a nice direction in general. More substance less flash seeming legit reporting more and more content all the time. I'm interested to see where it goes. There is certainly a niche (maybe too small of a word actually) for something like that.

Yup, I really enjoyed their coverage last night.

I just watched the first 7 picks of the draft via YouTube of the ESPN coverage. I became a little more interested in seeing it after the impressive numbers for the viewership for The Verticle's coverage came out. Here are some thoughts.

I'm becoming more and more of a fan of Jalen Rose. He is entertaining and has interesting insights. I get the feeling over the last year or 2 he has put more research and effort into his craft. I enjoy listening to his evening radio show on the way home from work. I liked the player comparisons.

I guess Wilbon was there for the grump old people or something. It seemed like he sorta didn't know what was going on at times.

I always like Jay Bilas and he does those positive quick breakdowns really well. He seems to really like talking up some guys defense a great deal.

I thought Bender was really well spoken.

It's cool based on the Wolves position in the draft and the way they have their team built to have a guy in Dunn that was thought of so highly drop to us. Let's keep building this thing with these young guys. Add some FAs this summer and let's roll.

I'll probably watch at least the rest of the first round later but I'll save it for another day.

According to Michael Wilbon, the Wolves will have to move Wiggins from SG to SF if they were to trade for Butler (nevermind the fact that Wiggins main position last year was SF)

He is the same guy who thinks Lavine isn't worth anything in the NBA that he's just an athletic freak dunk champion.

...that was kind of true when he was stuck playing PG and his shot wasn't falling. His knowledge is dated though.
