Re: We got em: Dunn excitement thread
I love a lot about Dunn. I love the back story of growing up, I love that he worked hard enough in the class room to graduate, I love the quickness, the length, and the defense. Maybe someday I'll love his scoring.
But folks, 1.77 isn't a bad ratio, it's horrible. Yes, I know it can and should improve... but sometimes a player has such tunnel vision that he always sees his target, but never sees who is moving toward the passing lane. One of the reasons Ricky is so good on assists is that he always seems to put the ball in the right place... somebody else might be willing to pass, but a pass at the knees is usually a turnover. Not saying that Dunn has that problem, for now just saying that 1.77 is horrible.
Two to three years from now, we'll know exactly what we have with Dunn (hopefully very good)... and Ricky will be 28-29 and past his peak. In the meantime, let's keep both the highly coveted prospect and the only one of our regulars from last year with a positive +/-.
In the meantime, we need a shooter and a big in free agency to build up our bench... it will be interesting to see how Layden and thibs address this.

SP, do we know for a fact that Thibs/Leydon were actively shopping Rubio? Thibs handing the keys to Dunn or Jones as our starting PG seems contrary to everything we know about him...I don't think a team with one of those guys starting next year would be a playoff team. Rubio rumors have been part of our lives since we drafted him, and I guess I haven't heard anything that I would deem reliable. I would like to hear the Wolves say they never shopped Rubio (like Milt had to do last year), but that doesn't seem to be their style. Silence from Thibs in this case tells me nothing.
Yep LST. I wonder if there were teams calling about Rubio because of the "He can't possibly for with Thibs because he doesn't shoot or score" thinking plus it was likely the Wolves were going to get a possible PG either Dunn or Murray (some basketball minds seem to think Murray is a PG) and if you are a team that needs a PG you would at least make some calls.
Then there is this:
Layden speaking with @PAOnTheMic calls Rubio a terrific player and speaking as though RR will stay.

I'm gonna have to listen to Layden and PA later to see what was said for myself.

Pete I am also skeptical about his passing. Here is how I look at it though. Dunn has legit size to play SG and if he can defend that position then having a guy with his skill set passing the ball becomes pretty valuable. In addition I have to give the guy credit for shooting 37% from 3 in back to back college seasons. its possible the guy could actually help the team as a 3 point shooter.

Monster, what is he supposed to say? That we have to move Rubio now, or that we don't see Ricky as part of our long term plan? Talk about killing any trade leverage he has. He basically said what he had to.

Given that I think we can become a playoff (albeit lower rung) team next year, we should see games where it's close at the end... and that's a time we could use both Dunn and Ricky on the court. In the last two minutes, we could see Dunn/Ricky on defense with Zach coming in on offense at every timeout or free throw.

Re: We got em: Dunn excitement thread
I think the Rubio chatter is to see what is out there. I think he is the only player at this point we have any reason to seek trades with. I would guess Towns, Wiggins, and LaVine are untouchable. I am sure there has been some discussion with Rubio's agent on what is going on.

That is always the go to response to these statements but I would further ask, what is he supposed to say if he really feels that way? Its a no win situation for these guys in charge. The truth will lie in what the team does in the next 3 weeks.

Cool, what do you mean about "killing trade leverage?" Do you mean they killed the leverage for trading Rubio by drafting Dunn?

Yeah nobody is gonna convince anyone that we aren't trying to move Rubio if they really believe that I guess unless maybe Laydenand Thibs both come out and basically say we aren't trading Rubio which seems unlikely to happen. What I think is weird though is people saying Rubio WILL be moved before the season starts. There is no hurry IMHO. I'm just going to wait and see how things play out on that one.

No, if he indicates that Ricky isn't part of the plan, he effectively makes it more difficult for us to get a top value return. He needs to act like we still value him highly and don't necessarily need to make a move.
