Call me crazy, but i think joerger has been doing a great job in sacramento, so hed be my frontrunner for COY. The vets have bought in and allowing the kids to play in joergers system.

COY is quite clearly Mike Malone so far.

Wouldn't it be Doc? 0.5 game back with no real All-Stars on that team. Just a bunch of solid players. Denver has Jokic popping off and they get a home court advantage nobody else in the league gets in altitude.

I would also say Bud, bickerstaff and Nurse are in the running

I just find it hard to give it to coaches who have MVP candidates on their teams. I think of it more of who's team is both good and greatly overachieving. I would put Doc 1 and Malone and Bickerstaff behind him just because they have legitimate all-stars and he has a team full of borderline ones. It's definitely close though.

Joerger is taking a team that was expected to fight for the first pick in ther draft, but instead are fighting fir a playoff spot. They've also been one of the better road teams in the league this year.

Ya, but if they don't get a playoff spot he's just not getting it. And the season is still young. He's got an awful lot of young players to keep this up for 82 games. I just think they are gonna run out of steam once everyone hits their stride in the next month or two.

Is it me or are injuries down this year? Some of what might make the West even more competitive than usual is that most teams seem relatively healthy. Last year Denver was missing Milsap and the Clippers were missing Gallinari. These two guys are really, really good players.

Actually Dever has had multiple injuries, Barton, Harris, Jarred Vanderbilt, rookie who they were thinking would be in the rotation, and of course Porter, who they drafted knowing he'd likely sit. Good teams sustain a high level of play through injuries. This makes Denver's start even more impressive. They have a very very nice roster.

Milsap broke a toe last night, and Gary Harris has been ruled out for 3 to 4 weeks with a hip injury. Those are a couple of tough losses.
