Looks like this draft is becoming more and more significant. I guess the big question is Tyus or Rose with the MLE? Ew.

Wolves fans need to accurately gauge Tyus Jones' ability. I've seen too many posts on here or Twitter about how he's the answer at point guard. Sorry, but he's not. We're a 25-win team if he's starting all season.

Jeff teague was never going to opt out of 19million. I have said that multiple times here. A lot of people were hoping that he will opt out to sign with another team on a 3/27-3/36m deal. Reason given where that this is a crappy situation etc.. But there is no good team out there that is going to offer him that kind of money. Most good teams are set at point guard and as much crap as posters here said our situation is, its still better and a lot more money than what teague would have gotten. Teeague opting in so quickly pretty much tells you that.

We either trade teague or keep him. Only way I trade him is if we get morant in the draft. Otherwise, he is going to be our starting pg next season.

We love PGs who can't shoot or move. I guess the real issue is that these things were supposed to be Teague's strengths in comparison, but like most Wolves his shooting went in the toilet this season. That coupled with the injuries doesn't breed a lot of confidence.

Let's quickly break down the buyout angle.

1. Any amount Teague would agree to in a buyout lowers the amount he costs against the cap.

2. Why would Teague agree to a buyout? He doesn't really want to be here so he could choose his next destination. It's possible he could even make more money if he agrees to a buyout and then gets another contract worth more than his buyout.

3. Why would the Wolves agree to a buyout? I'd guess unless they just hate Teague a ton they would need to save more than basically a vet mom salary buyout. I mean Teague isn't a fan favorite here but if we signed him for the vet min nobody would be complaining right? I'd guess he would have to give up something like 5 million to make something happen.

4. If Teague is gone in a buyout...this team would have a need at either starting PG or as a legit backup even if we keep both Rose and Tyus. Sadly Tyus didn't do enough to make me feel confident in his game as a starter and Rose proved he can't stay healthy enough to play every night which also likely keeps his price low. If Teague would have stayed healthy all season and played relatively well there was a chance he opted out. Neither happened. It was the worst season of his career. It's also possible he has a bounce back year for us or another team.

Teague is a bad fit and has reached a point in his career where he can't stay healthy. But no surprise he opted in. The luxury tax is going to be around $131 million. If we want to avoid spending any portion of the MLE to keep Tyus we'll have to use his cap hold of about $7 million. We should be able to spend most of the $9.2 million MLE on someone, re-sign Tyus and Rose, sign our 1st round pick and then fill in the rest of the roster with minimum salary vets - Deng could be one of them. Those players would go with KAT, Covington, Wiggins, Okogie, Saric, Reynolds, Gorgui, KBD and Teague. Hard to get excited over that, but that's where we're at.

If the Wolves want to shake up the roster a bit and actually get some value back, they'll have to consider trading Saric and/or Covington. Neither Wiggins more Teague would bring anything of value in return. I wouldn't trade Okogie or KBD because of their upsides and contracts.

Question. Does this make Teague more tradeable as an expiring? I guess it depends on what kind of contract we get back and whether that player is a better fit for our squad.

Maybe get a slightly better player (fit) but one more year on a bad contract?

Legit question. What reasonably available PG is going to be much of an upgrade as a volume 3 point shooter if we did find some way to move on from Teague? Maybe I'm missing someone but I haven't found anyone yet.

I get wanting to move on from Teague but...the reality is are we actually gonna get better one way or another without him? Would we actually be better off sticking it out and maybe even hoping he returns to being an average starting PG?

I wouldn't trade Covington. We need defense and 3 point shooting. How do we get better by eliminating both? Unless Covington has long term issues from his recent injury, trading him would make us a worse team in all likelihood.

Saric has been inconsistent, but he may be able to turn it around. I'm not opposed to trading him but I still think he has upside as well.

Teague is still the teams best PG if healthy. Buying him out is never going to happen.

I'm interested to see what Ryan can do with a full offseason and we don't have a Butler fiasco destroying our team. I still think we need to trade Wiggins or have Wiggins become at least an avg starter while also having several other players take leaps like Okogie and KBD /draft pick hits to become contenders.

I agree that it makes little sense to buy out Teague. I'd like to trade him, but I don't see a scenario where that would help the Wolves unless there's a team with cap room that would be willing to absorb his salary for sake of getting a veteran PG for a year.

The Wolves need another allstar to pair with KAT and there is only one player on the roster, Josh Okogie, with any chance of eventually becoming that player and he's a long shot. Unfortunately, Covington and Saric are the only players other than KAT with significant trade value. The Wolves can't trade Wiggins without giving up other valuable assets. If the Wolves don't get lucky in the lottery then they'll have to seriously consider trading either Covington or Saric if not both to either move up in the draft for the chance at a potential star or to offload Wiggins. I'm not advocating that we trade either one, especially Covington, but it's something this organization will have to consider.

If the Wolves wanna trade Covington, they better start fielding calls for Towns as well.
