Even though like others... I dig Covington.

This draft is also pretty crappy and I'd hate to bank on having this draft produce major pieces to a contending core.

I hate to splash cold water over this news Shams put out there but this is about as realistic as the idea of Kyrie coming to the Wolves because we were on his list AFTER we signed Teague.

That's great news. Him and KAT are close too. That was one guy I was hoping the wolves were going to trade for before Brooklyn got him.

Love the idea....don't realistically know that we have pieces to get him. #11 doesn't come close. Adding Okogie.....I know many on here like his upside, but man, he was statistically HORRIBLE last season. A team would really have to believe that he improves drastically in every facet of his game. And how does that work when Russell is up for huge extension this off-season? Can they even do a sign & trade?

The wolves would need to clear approximately 34 million in cap space to give Russell the max, so Teague and gorgui.

So the question is would you be willing to give up Teague, gorgui, #11 (to get off gorgui contact) for A late 1st and the risk to sign Russell (hoping the Nets don't match).*

*I am assuming the Teague and gorgui trades would be separate trades. Getting a late 1st for Teague and having to giving #11 to get off gorgui

If we could get Russel for Teague Gorgui and some crappy picks I'm more than in. Being a more attractive destination than Brooklyn for Russell does seem dubious, but let's dream.

I'm in if we just give away Teague and get nothing back. So really it's basically would you be willing to give up #11 to get Russell. The thing that gives me pause is questioning if Russell is worth the money it would cost to get him. I like Russell but there is risk he isn't gonna be worth that kind of money and it could hold us back. Of course i think we all know it's likely unrealistic but it's fun to dream I suppose.

Also there would be a risk the Nets match. So even if we cleared the cap no promises we get Russell

I can't envision a realistic scenario that would bring Russell to the Wolves. First of all, I would think that the Nets would be inclined to sign him, even if it's a max deal. It won't be a super max and it will be substantially less than one of the veteran elite free agents on the market. The Nets won't have cap space to sign two elite veteran free agents, but they could sign Russell and still have cap room to add an elite free agent like Kawhi or Durant. Imagine a team built around Durant, Russell and LeVert.

The Wolves can't put themselves in a position to make an offer without giving up way too much to clear cap space. Any realistic scenario giving the Wolves the cap space they'd need to make a max offer to Russell would likely be a bad deal for the Wolves. At a minimum it would require giving up #11, Okogie. And of course the Wolves would have no guarantee that the Nets would decline to match. So the Wolves could end up giving up those assets with nothing to show for it in the end except meaningless cap space. At the end of the day, tendering an offer for Russell as a restricted free agent would be really dumb.

The only other avenue for getting Russell would be a sign-and-trade. But I can't imagine the Nets wanting any comparably paid player on the Wolves roster in exchange for Russell. Wiggins? Only in our wildest dreams. Maybe the Nets really love Okogie, like Gorgui and covet a player at #11. Then maybe a sign-and-trade deal is possible. But if they love Okogie that much, then maybe we should keep and develop him while under his team-friendly rookie contract. Some people are giving far to much weight to Okogie's bad shooting stats as a 19-20 year old rookie in a really tumultuous season. Would I give him up to get Russell? Yes, if it's part of a sign-and-trade deal where I know I'm getting Russell. But I just don't see any such deal materializing unless it also includes our #11 pick, KBD and a future 1st round pick. At that point the price becomes to steep for me. I still have lingering doubts about D'Angelo as a possible head case.

So I guess it's cool the Wolves front office plans on "going after D'Angelo." He could be that second star we need to pair with KAT. On the other hand, I'd be more impressed if our front office were "going after" more realistically obtainable targets.

I see Nets (and the Spurs) as one of the teams that could try to fix wiggs, just as they did with dlo. Teams asked about wiggs at the trade deadline, so its not like we would need to add assets if we just wanted to unload him. I think most would agree that the wolves did wiggs no favors (he hasnt helped himself either) in how they developed him and I think teams see it.

It seems the path to getting Russell may be if the Nets get some other top end players. Also is there some flexibility in terms of salaries with a sign and trade with Russell coming of a rookie deal? The Jazz are also interested...damn. Of course what if Russell want to come play with Towns? We do have a new basketball executive that happened to have worked with the Nets so we have some legit intel about him also. Screw the draft let's get Russell. Where is Cam I want to hear his take on this.

Hard Pass on D'Russell. I also have no interest in trading Covington for #4.
