Good times. Man I was wrong on a couple of the guys the Kings drafted players ai thought dropped to them and they got a steal. Thomas and McLemore are ones I'm thinking of. Meanwhile Lee I think is a guy that can still play but I just wouldn't want to pay him what he is getting paid. I could see him being a guy the Mavs get something out of if he actually plays.

Were you really expecting anything. I heard Jon K give a rousing defense of Taylor on his last podcast and it really made me upset. His whole point was that Taylor hasn't been actively making mistakes therefore you can't pin the state of the franchise on him. But inaction has always been Taylor's m.o. He's so passive, and we should never expect anything progressive or forward thinking to ever happen with this franchise. It has always been reactionary until it is too late.
I mean your goal is either to make the playoffs in which case we needed to be buyers at the deadline or not in which case we should be selling guys like Taj to open up space for their younger replacements in Saric. This team isn't a playoff team and we just stood pat. That's just basic team management.

I think my point is that we've never really even had basic team management, at least I'm struggling to remember when we made thoughtful deals ever in the history of this franchise. Everything has been reactionary and weird as far as I can remember. I'm disappointed too, but it was the obvious outcome.

You're right, Doper. The lack of basic team management from the Wolves historically is pretty astounding. I'm among those, like you, who are disappointed but not surprised by the Wolves failure to make any deals by the deadline. Then again, knowing who's in charge, probably best they didn't make any deals given the high likelihood any such deals would have been bad for the Wolves. :)
Doper and Lip- While I share your lack of confidence in Laydon, I'm a little more sympathetic to his not making a deal. When you only have 9 healthy players you can rely on (and "rely" is a relative term when it comes to some of them), it might have been difficult to field a team tonight if he had dealt a couple of them. Plus, the ones we're willing to give up weren't exactly coveted by other teams. I read a lot of the proposed deals on this board, and the few feasible ones weren't very exciting. I'm not surprised, but also not very disappointed that nothing got done.

I think the real problem is that there is not a clear direction of this team, and in the false narrative of patience we really needed someone handling this deadline to give us some direction. I predicted nothing would happen, but I never thought it was because of the quality of the deals. I knew Glen wouldn't give anyone enough clout to apply some needed direction to this team (are we trimming the fat or making a push?)Instead we wait in limbo till it gets worse and Glen will apply an even worse solution. I can't think why anyone would want this job. Which means we take a flyer on another unproven GM, which would be a pipe dream to expect Glen to get that hire right. I feel like this is a repeat of what we've seen with this team in the past.

Doper - I wish I could disagree with you, but I can't. You nailed it, identifying the real problem as the lack of clear direction. And yes, it starts at the top with Glen. Then it continues through the bad executives who Glen hires.
