DLO for RJ Barrett?
DLO for RJ Barrett?
Apparently, the Knicks are willing to deal RJ Barrett for a star guard. Players mentioned include Lillard and Beal. But how about DLO? OK, DLO's not quite at the same level as Lillard and Beal (understatement?). :) But if you were Rosas, you'd make the offer, wouldn't you? Maybe add Culver to the deal? And a future lottery-protected first?
Re: DLO for RJ Barrett?
Yes. In a heartbeat.
Re: DLO for RJ Barrett?
Star? What the heck does "star" mean? I think its a media concoction, that has no accepted definition in the way that term gets thrown around. Ask Cam and he'll tell you DLO is absolutely, a star. It don't matter if he is or not, I don't see much likelihood that the Knicks would trade Barrett for DLO straight up (but I wouldn't mind being wrong about that).

I don't put much stock in the word. I put more stock in the examples like Lillard and Beal. I would think the Knicks would aim for that caliber player in return for Barrett. But DLO would fit really well in Thibodeau's pick-and-roll offense. Add Culver and a future lottery-protected 1st and maybe the Knicks to that deal. It's certainly worth asking. It's worth noting that we'd also free up salary space under the luxury tax, which would open the door to a meaningful free agent signing.

Re: DLO for RJ Barrett?
RJ Barrett is becoming a real nice player and probably has more runway for growth, but doesn't it seem a bit delusional to think that he can fetch Damian Lillard, who is a top 10 or 15 player!? Even Beal is a stretch. DLO for Barrett actually seems like a fair swap.
Re: DLO for RJ Barrett?
This is a very weird report. First, it's weird because I'm not sure why the Knicks would want to move on from a 21-year-old player who averaged 18 PPG last season and is on the verge of becoming an elite defender. Second, how would the numbers work? Barrett is signed through next year at about $8 million (with a team option for 2022-3), so I don't know how a deal would work for max players like Beal, Lilliard or DLO.
That said, if Rosas could make the numbers work, I would easily swap DLO for Barrett, even though I'm still lukewarm on Barrett. Pitino kind of ripped him yesterday even as he was praising him for his good game for Canada in bringing up his futility in the mid-range game, and he's right. Barrett's shot selection is the biggest thing holding him back. He struggles with the mid-range, making less than a third of his shots, but also takes almost a third of his shots from mid-range. This makes him a very inefficient scorer. Can he change? Maybe. But I note he was an inefficient scorer at Duke also, but mostly because he was not a very good 3-point shooter in college (that has changed).
Puzzling report for me...

Russell is light years away from Lillard and Beal.
And adding Culver is a NEGATIVE.

The Knicks are never in a million years doing this.
Re: DLO for RJ Barrett?
Why would they want a star guard when they already have Derrick Rose?! :)
Would the Knicks be willing to give up Barrett to get Lilliard or Beal? I could believe that. In a package for Russell? Not a chance. He is younger might impact the team just as much as Russell and costs a lot less. This report makes me think the Knicks are a team that would have interest in Russell...to some extent.
Meanwhile the Knicks have some other options than giving up assets for Russell. They could even consider signing guys like Reggie Jackson or Cam Payne and hope their play this last season is more of a indication of their ability going forward and even if they drop back a little they are an upgrade over Payton.
