Wolves Draft Speculation

Post by Lipoli390 »

OK, we don't have any draft picks this year. But the Wolves could conceivably trade into the draft. I don't see the Wolves trading into the first round. But I could see the Wolves trading into the second round or maybe buying a low 2nd-round pick for cash.

If I were Rosas, I'd have my sights set on getting EJ Onu. I've been viewing him as a possible undrafted free agent target. Rosas should monitor the situation closely and if he has reason to believe that a team is likely to take him in the second round, then Gersson should try to get into the second round to grab him. I think Culver is an asset that can get Rosas into the mid to lower second round.

Onu played 4 years at Shawnee State. So he's older and hasn't faced top level college competition. But he has a freakish 7'8" wingspans and a 9'6" overhead reach. He also has a solid 240 pound frame. In addition he's mobile and has a terrific competitive motor. His physical profile and competitiveness are too enticing to not pursue him.

Not that I want them to go undrafted, but I really hope Rosas gets McKinley Wright and Jay Huff as his 2 way guys.

Wright is all heart and Huff is all analytics.

I'll be in BK tomorrow JUUUUUST in case Rosas does something and they need to pan to a Wolves fan in the crowd (wouldn't be my first... or 2nd time)

I think it would be kind of funny if you were the most enthusiastic and crazy fan at the draft, dressed in Wolves garb from head to toe, in a year we don't have a pick.

Great suggestion on Onu, Lip. If you look at his draft profile, the only negative is the fact he played in a lesser league. So did CJ McCollum. And his positives (massive size, shot blocking, 40% 3-point and 72% free throw shooting, athleticism, good ball handler) are things that all translate to success in the NBA. NBA Draft.net says "he has one of the highest ceilings" in this year's draft. Would love to have a second round pick to get him.

I'm also interested in prolific 3-point shooters who might not be drafted and could be added to our summer league team. I guess I'll be watching tonight.

There is an international guy that's in the same range of late 2nd or undrafted that supposedly has a 9'10" overhead reach. I can't remember who it was but I was pretty sure Lip would like him!!! ;)
