McKinley Wright 2-way

Post by kekgeek »

The local product from Champlin Park signs a 2-way contract. Love the signing. All heart, scorer who plays his ass off. Love the pick up

Of the 32 players in college basketball who initiated over 350 pick and rolls last season, McKinley Wright was the most productive in the entire country -- 1.08 points per possession, per Synergy

Seems like a true PG that isn't a good 3 point shooter. It makes me wonder if the Wolves think he has potential there or if they might be more willing to let guys take something other than 3's or shots at the rim. He was one of the best in college basketball taking care of the basketball. I'm looking forward to seeing him play in summer league and this is the type of guy I expected them to add especially for the Iowa Wolves. Also it seems like he can defend too. It will be interesting to see what the Wolves do with the PG position before the season starts.

Terrific signing. He has a great arsenal of mid-range shots - jumpers and floaters - and he's also a good finisher at the rim. He looks really quick and totally under control. Has ball-on-a-string handle. Looks like a good passer who takes care of the ball. Plays hard all the time. This is what the Rosas front office does well - spotting and signing good undrafted free agents. I'd like to see them fill the other two-way slot with EJ Onu. :)

He reminds me of a smaller poor mans version of A. Miller or maybe another comp would be R. Felton? I like this move!

Yep, that is Rosas's saving grace, and he has done it again with a terrific signing. One of the most exciting Minnesota high school players I have ever watched. Always overlooked because he is barely 6 feet tall, but immensely successful at every level he has played at. Tough, smart and incredibly fast...I remember how impressed I was at how quickly he pushed the ball up the court in the state tournament. Also a great leaper which translates into being a really good rebounder.

His 3-point shooting is a concern, but he still made 33% of his threes during his college career. And as Lip says, he is a great finisher at the rim...he will have the best floater in Wolves history (name a better one). I love this signing...might be enough to get me to Vegas!

Onu is gone, but Hurt is still out there I think.

If Wright turned into an Ish Smith type player who hasn't been a reliable 3 point shooter in his career i would be thrilled.

Never mind. Just saw that Dallas signed Onu. The Wolves should have bought one of the last three 2nd-round picks for cash and used that pick to take Onu. I'll refer to this post a couple years down the road as reference to another Rosas mistake.
