Drummond
Re: Drummond
I'd be fine with signing Drummond, who is a two time all-star if we have the capspace to do so and it doesn't interfere with the chance to land a big dog like Simmons. I wasn't a big fan of trading a second rounder for Ed Davis and Drummond would be a massive upgrade. I think its highly unlikely though as Rosas has shown in the past he wants KAT to be the team's center.
Re: Drummond
Drummond next to KAT would be incredible. But he's a 28-year-old center who was paid $28 million by Cleveland last year when he averaged 17.5/13.5 for them. Somebody is going to pay him at least $25 million next year, and it's not gonna be us.

I'm not so sure.....Doesn't seem like he can hang with guys on perimeter switches and in pick and roll coverages. I haven't watched a ton of Drummond over the years, but when I do, he seems a bit more like a half-asleep giant. Yes, he piles up some great defensive-oriented stats like rebounds, steals, and blocks, but I think that papers over the stuff that REALLY matters for a big, which is mostly about lateral foot speed and positioning.
By the way, as a guy that's wanted Steven Adams, I'm now starting to question that as well. The more I watch these elite playoff teams relentlessly hunt switches, it just seems really hard to keep two legit bigs on the floor at once for anything other than brief stretches.
OTOH, KAT is a pretty big defensive wussy in the paint (and whines like one), so it's a real dilemma to me.

I don't disagree on Drummond's inability to defend the perimeter. On the other hand, big bodies like him who consistently average a double double and can protect the rim always get paid, so I'm fairly confident he will command a salary way out of the Wolves' range. I think Drummond has been around so long, many fans think of him as being much older than he is. In reality, he's just 27 and entering his prime years.

Enes Kanter signed a 2 year/ $9.8M deal. He's also a walking double-double machine with minutes.
And he's only one year older than Drummond.
The days of Drummond making $25M+ are over. I don't think he becomes as dismissed as Kanter has been... but they're closer than many would think. Both will end up having roles for what they do really really well, even on decent teams. But they both have limited impact because of what they can't do.
Drummond's minutes were down to 21 mpg in the playoffs.
Re: Drummond
Ya I will actually be stunned if Drummond makes over 6 million this upcoming season. He just really struggles guarding the outside. He also can't destroy small ball lineups on offense either. His brand of center can still be rosterable but they are a dying breed.

Agreed. Hassan Whiteside got the vet min this season from Sacramento. I think Drummond partly because of his age will get something higher than that but yeah unless he shows something more he isn't going to be getting big money...or anywhere near even mid-level money.
Would I like the Wolves signing Drummond on a cheap contract? Yes. Playoffs? If he helps us get there great. If he is targeted there fine he will be paid like a backup and we can figure out some way to upgrade in some way if needed.

I'd be fine with Drummond on a cheap-ish deal and around 20 MPG. Again, there is value in simply throwing a really big body out there early in halves to absorb fouls and protect KAT. But make no mistake, KAT needs to be our Center during crunch time.
