Why would the Lakers want Rubio at $17M?

LeBron James dominates the ball most of the time, making Rubio irrelevant.

Yes, they had Rondo for a spell... but he was a bench guy... and much cheaper.

I can't answer your question. But it's been reported that the Lakers are looking for a playmaking PG. Those reports indicate that LeBron is pushing for that. I just assume it's not for me to reason why... :)

Playmaking PG could mean 25 different players... Not named Ricky Rubio.

We can put that one to bed.

Actually I believe Ricky was included among the playmaking guards the Lakers might be interested in. So it's not bedtime just yet.

Dunkin With Wolves: Woj mentions Ricky Rubio as an option for the Lakers if they lose Dennis Schroder in free agency 3 days ago - via Twitter

Not bedtime yet, Abe! :). There are rumor mongers among NBA reporters and there are good reporters who are plugged in and highly reliable. Obviously, Woj falls into the latter category. Woj doesn't actually say the Lakers are interested in acquiring Ricky. But he's well sourced enough to have good reason to mention Ricky as an option for the Lakers. Woj isn't the sort to just throw ideas at the wall in the hope they stick. So yes, the Lakers probably have Ricky on their radar as a possible acquisition. And they appear to be anxious to get rid of Kyle Kuzma. I'm not predicting that the Lakers would do that deal. But I think it's a realistic possibility. I think it would be a good deal for the Lakers, but if I were Rosas I wouldn't do it.
