Those are games missed for Porzingis by season. 7'3" guys with a history of leg/knee issues screams "WARNING" in bright LEDs.
And he's sort of adrift as a player. He's so tall, but doesn't really post up. And he's a solid but not great shooter. Pass.
If as it's been reported the market is supposedly strong for Myles Turner then even at his salary Porzingis is going to have more value as he is a MUCH better offensive player with the defensive ability. Even if it's the same price...even though it's tempting I probably pass because of the injuries like I would for Myles Turner.
Just for fun the 538 RAPTOR metric had Porzingis only slightly better (massive drop off on D) than Naz Reid this season. Naz was less effective by their metrics this season than he was his rookie year. Ok fine Abe you talked me out of this unlikely scenario. Thanks.
I'll stick with my three team deal where Rosas seeks out teams with trade exceptions to dump Layman and Culver using our 2nd's.
Wolves got that predraft workout. Find 2 guys who won't get picked and treat them the way we treated Reid.
Bolmaro comes in, keep Vanderbilt, maybe bring back James Johnson at the BAE. Basically get healthy and stay healthy. Otherwise, nothing will matter
C Towns /Reid
PF Johnson /Vanderbilt /Hernangomez
SF McDaniels /Okogie
SG Edwards /Beasley /Bolmaro
PG Russell /Rubio /Nowell
find 2 rookies who if nothing else, can either shoot the shit out of the basketball OR block shots. Find the 2 best in college.
Isaiah Livers might go undrafted. Get him on the phone before the night is over and sign him to a 2 way. Matthew Hurt can be Juancho on a nonguaranteed deal. Bring him in. Marcus Bagley? Why not? The Wolves have to go into the draft as if they're picking 61st and 62nd.

Wild - I think your plan is probably the way to go. But I'd first see if we can land a Myles Turner or Steven Adams in exchange for Ricky and some or all of the following: Culver, Layman and a future 2nd round pick (future lottery-protected 1st if it's Myles). If we could pull of an exchange of Ricky plus for Turner or Adams, then I'd sign JMac to a minimum deal as our backup PG. I like that Nowell and Edwards can handle the ball and facilitate the offense a bit in a backup role, sho it wouldn't all fall on JMac. If we can't pull of a Rubio deal for an Adams or Turner, then I'd go with your plan. I like your idea of signing James Johnson for the minimum. I expecting Bolmaro to come in and I would definitely keep Vanderbilt.

Let's get back to this point Doper. This group you mentioned actually makes over 31 million. Add in Layman and that's over 35 million in expiring contracts the Wolves have that aim sure they would be willing to move. I think there is going to be a lot of moves around the league and so having all these expiring contracts could help the Wolves and other teams facilitate various trades. Will the Wolves get anything super exciting out of it? Maybe not but if they could move any of these guys and bring back a true rotation big in the process it could be a pretty solid move. There are also some GM changes so that could mean teams willing to make some moves in that way also.

Yeah thank you for that correction. We may not be primary target for assets but we are that magic 3rd team with all of our expiring contracts. That's a lot of dough which should be able to net us a real rotation big ideally.
I'll admit to having far more appreciation for Ricky Rubio's game than the general consensus on this board, but it's interesting to me how Rubio is not included in much of the discussion here of the Wolves' rotations going forward. That doesn't jive with the way Rosas talks about the future...just a couple days ago he raved about him on a media zoom call. Dane Moore tweeted today how effective Rubio and DLO were together after the all-star break (after a disastrous start to the season), and said he was more and more convinced Finch was going to try to make that pairing work. His name comes up way too frequently with Rosas and Finch to convince me he is going to be traded or relegated to a reserve role.
Personally I still favor some trade in which a trade involving DLO brings back Simmons...I would then pair him with Ant in the backcourt and let Rubio run the second team offense. But if a Simmons deal doesn't happen, I'm still not sold on DLO as a winning answer at PG, and I suspect Finch (who publicly raves about Rubio's game) will play them together a lot next season.

I've always been a big Rubio fan as well, but I would argue his play along with Ant's and DLO's were the top three reasons why this team stunk so bad after KAT got hurt. On paper, we shouldn't have totally imploded like that, but we did thanks to how out of synch these guys played on both ends of the floor. Ant had the excuse of being a rookie, but the other two were just terrible to start the year.
Now may be this season with a full training camp and some good vibes carrying over from the end of last season will mean Rubio gets out of the gates better. He isn't getting any younger and most objective observers felt that he definitely lost a step. The only part of his game I really saw improve in the second half of the season was the turnovers. He definitely did a better job as a game manager and keeping the unforced errors down. But otherwise, the inconsistent shooting and one-on-one defense looked consistently rickety throughout the year.
17 Mil is way too much money for a back up PG. Even if we upgraded our starter. Rubio should be traded while he has value as an expiring contract. Its simple math as I see it.

I think that is it. Rubio is a very solid player but he is coming off his worst year as a pro. Played very poorly off the bench for the majority of the year. In theory his 17 million expiring is a legit trade asset. Also I think the position he plays hurts his value. Backup pgs this playoffs who made a decent run. Bucks for Teague got off waivers, Suns got Payne who was out of the league a couple years ago. Reggie Jackson was cut by the Pistons, Hawks really didn't have a true back up PG but Dunn was signed for relatively cheap, Nets got Mike James for the min overseas. 76ers shake Milton 2nd round pick, nuggets for Campazzo for cheap from overseas.
The top tier teams are not using their cap space on their backup PG. They are actually not spending any money on them.
Rubio value is solid if Dlo got hurt and his relationship with Ant. Don't think that outweighs the negatives of Ricky with his contract in theory being a positive

Good point. It seems like it's not hard to find replacement-level backup PGs and if you think about Edwards trajectory, he will increasingly become the chief perimeter creator on this team as time goes on, which means he needs PGs next to him that can space the floor and defend.
In an ideal world, you would have KAT + Edwards + Bench Scorer + literally everyone else a 3&D player at their position. That's not realistic to find that many 3&D guys, but it's what the front office should be striving for. We have the shot-making and scoring pretty well covered at this point. Not so much the 3&D.
