The bottom line to me is that Simmons is a more talented and impactful basketball player than DLo. If Rosas can improve our talent he should do it. We can worry about the nuances of getting us to a championship once we have a winning record. And yes, this is an exercise in futility.
Yep. Pretty much this. Implosion aside... Simmons has been a much more impactful basketball player than D. Russell.
How much money do you invest in a non shooter when perimeter shooting is the name of the game.
Having we been down this road enough with a lack of 3 point threats?
Simmons has been impactful but this last series shows how much of an Impact his shooting has on the negative side of things.
No thank you!!
I looked forward to ESPN showing video of him hitting uncontested 3s this off-season giving fans hope he's turned a corner.... Again..
Yeah, very interesting discussion on a couple threads here re: Simmons.
I think if we were to go after Simmons, we absolutely HAVE to assume that he is what he is and just totally embrace it. He will never be a good shooter. He will never be a willing shooter, He will always look to get rid of the ball to have someone else shoot it. It would be incredibly arrogant of any GM - especially a Wolves GM - to believe he'll change in these areas.
On the other hand, he is otherwise a jack-of-all trades - quick-strike passes, versatile defender, rebounds his position well, great handles, unselfish to a fault.
I think if the Wolves were to try and nab him, it would have to be DLO or bust. I really don't know what other player or player combo we could come up with that would be a realistic swap that both teams might do.
Simmons-KAT-Edwards-McDaniels. Not a bad 4-man unit right there. But.....that 5th guy has to be a shooter. You can't have Simmons + another poor shooter on the floor. It will never work. Beasley? Now we're back to only two guys that can defend in the starting lineup (Simmons and McDaniels). Another 3&D wing would be awesome with this group or even a PF that can defend and shoot since Simmons can play almost any position defensively.
Sometimes we get carried away with page after page of trades that nobody else is talking about, but this one is different. I was driving around town yesterday, and Barreiro and Jonny Athletic did 10 minutes on how much sense a straight-up DLO for Simmons trade made for both teams. Simmons has become the devil with Philly fans, and is being unfairly blamed as the sole reason they couldn't get out of the second round. They rank 24th in 3-point attempts, and a high volume scorer like DLO might be welcomed on their team. As for Simmons, he would instantly transform a very bad defensive team, and especially if they could add a rim protecting center. Simmons and McDaniels are not only both great defenders, they are also both incredibly versatile and would allow Finch all sorts of interesting defensive matchups. Q's right...a trade for Simmons would come with the expectation that he will never improve as a shooter. But when you start out with KAT and Ant, you don't need another high-volume scorer like DLO...you need defense.
I don't think Jonny A. devoted an entire segment to this topic because he reads this message board. He generally brings up topics because there is some steam around them. He fully admits that he doesn't see Rosas as motivated to move DLO, but he clearly is hearing some talk about it in NBA circles, and thinks it would be difficult for Rosas to turn down an offer that included an all-NBA player like Simmons. The stars might be aligning on this one.
Here's the thing with Ben Simmons... his lack of shooting really becomes a huge issue in the playoffs.
Ok. Bring it on.
Just making the playoffs would be about a 4-level jump for this organization. And the 76ers have made the 2nd round 3 of the past 4 years (losing in the 1st rd the one year Simmons was hurt).
That would be the best stretch of Wolves basketball... EVER.
FNG, You don't necessarily need another high-volume scorer in addition to Ant and KAT but you do need guys that can hit 3's. Moving DLO for Simmons puts us dangerously close to being a poor-shooting team once again. I get that Beasley and KAT would still be on the roster, but beyond those two, has anyone else really proven themselves as a shooter over a sustained period of time?
The bottom line is a team cannot have enough 3&D type players on their roster. It is the second most important role after the perimeter scorer/creator role. If we bring Simmons in, you can't play him with guys like Vando, Okogie, Culver, and Rubio because then you have two guys on the floor at once that opposing teams can sag way off of.
I'm not against a trade to acquire Simmons, but the reality is Rosas would have to remake a large portion of the non-KAT/Ant/McDaniels roster to accommodate him and make it a fit.

Kendrick Perkins said trade DLO + Beasley for Simmons on ESPN. I think this could really happen.
Some type of deal which revolves around DLo and Simmons that is. I would be hesitant to include Beas myself. We need more 3P shooters if we acquired Simmons, so that would set us back some for sure.

I say DLO + Culver.
While the Wolves would take a hit with shooting with both Beasley and Russell gone...
Culver has negative value... why would the 76ers want him?

They don't, maybe a 3 team trade is needed.
We can't be trotting out some silly Vandy, Okogie and Simmons with Culver and Naz. You really need 3P shooters around Simmons. So I have to keep Beasley. In fact we will need more 3P shooters as well if this trade happened.
