I always thought he had a chance to be a good shooter. That Georgia team was kinda bad and he took bad shots there. No he doesn't look like Ray Allen or whatever when shooting but I thought he looked just fine shooting the ball. This good already? Yeah it's a pleasant surprise. Still personally I'm not actually THAT surprised.

Also we know now know Edwards personality and him saying goofy stuff is part of the Ant experience. I think many people misread him and didn't think he was gonna really be all in on this.

I think Q makes a good point that the guy is a really natural athlete (I will add excellent hand eye coordination abilities) that can really just do things (with work) that was not expected. I also think Edwards not only is good at these things but he has a natural curiosity and joy about it too that's pretty special.

I was convinced in Edwards after Klutch held their workout and Ant looked 4 times more athletic than Maxey who was no slouch. The athletic talent was next level.

Monster and Doper, Ant was always my clear choice at #1 also. I read the poll thread here about what the Wolves should do with the first pick (before I joined the forum) and was surprised that only 3 out of 18 votes were for Edwards...Wiseman got the most votes. I never understood why Wiseman was being considered, because the only video on him was of him dunking on very short defenders in his three college games and against AAU players smaller than him and not very interested in defense...way too risky for a #1 pick. Ant on the other hand was scoring 19 a game with three defenders sometimes draped on him as the only true scoring threat. It was fun to imagine how much better he would be as a second or third option in the pros. He had a rough start, but thanks to Q for the stats showing his progression!

Still, I thought Rosas would screw this one up, and I remember thinking the dumb SOB finally got one right when he drafted Ant. But Jon K's reporting yesterday suggests he really didn't have a choice, as neither Wiseman or Ball wanted to play here. We should all write a thank you note to those two guys for keeping Rosas from making another bad pick!

I think there simple answer for this but Wiseman was the only one I had seen play a real game and was real impressed with him.

Never saw Ant shoot once at Georgia and was told by people that he sad suspect motor like Wiggins.

And Lamelo Ball couldn't shoot if his life depended on it before coming an NBA player.

One more thing on Ant. Some of us have been talking about how much more productive he could become if he learned to draw fouls. Well, 20 FTA's in the past two games gives us some reason for optimism on this front.

There was one play last night night where he was driving into the lane and he stuck his arms out in a Harden-esque and increasingly DLO-esque way as he approached the rim, just begging someone to swipe down on his arms. I can't recall if he got fouled or not on that particular play, but I never recall seeing him doing that before last night. He's learning!

I think it was pretty clear Wiseman didn't want to land here and I think there were indications that Ball wanted to land elsewhere also. It's worthwhile for Jon K to bring this up in the context of his article. Id rather have Edwards but I don't think I would be too broken-hearted at this point to have Ball on the roster. I still think that the Wolves would have been more interested in Ball as a prospect if they haven't made the move for Russell and moved Wiggins. I think as Jon K put it in the article that Edwards was ready to go he had confidence and didn't care where he landed.

Just think where we'd be if Wiseman and Ball hadn't essentially forced Rosas's hand. I don't think Rosas would have drafted another PG, so he likely would have gone with Wiseman, and what a disaster that would have been. I've sent my thank you note to Wiseman and Ball, and suggest you guys all do it also.

Did anyone here really think Rosas was gonna take Wiseman anyways? Not really. I think this last offseason makes that even more clear. I think let's give Rosas and MAYBE even to some small extent Ryan Saunders credit for making the right decision (even if some of the thinking of playing small is somewhat flawed). David Kahn passed on Steph curry but even he admitted himself it was because he miss-evaluated him (so did I) not because Steph didn't work out here. Meanwhile Wiseman's career isn't over yet so...maybe he still becomes a really good player. I would't want to bank on it the reality is that picking Wiseman and then he gets hurt etc seems like a Wolves thing to do and then have happen.

It's certainly working out well for Anthony Edwards in Minnesota, and LaMelo Ball in Charlotte, but we might never get a chance to see what James Wiseman could have been. His injuries keep piling on and his recovery has been delayed multiple times. It's a shame, really. That kid has elite physicality that would be difficult to matchup with on a nightly basis and it's being zapped from him before his career can even get started.
