Here's an excerpt revealing Ant's obsessive, competitive personality. Again, it's not obvious from his demeanor, but this excerpt suggests he has that quality - the mindset that drove the likes of Kobe, MJ and other former NBA players to become great:

Friends and family see his mind shift into overdrive when he finds a hobby. Ping pong and bowling are two recent pursuits, and Edwards obsesses over them, watching YouTube clips of the best in the world, studying techniques and not giving up until he has become a force. He started waxing all his friends in ping pong during the first year of the pandemic, then would reach the 250s in bowling this summer.

"I guess his brain just works that way," Edwards' older brother, Bubba, said. "Anything he starts, he actually takes time and focuses on it. He practices over and over."

So how does that relate to basketball? This summer Holland challenged Edwards to get more serious about film study, to meet with Wolves coaches and gain a better understanding of the game and what would be demanded of him on the defensive end of the floor. As the summer wore on, Holland said he started to get the same feeling watching Edwards dig into off-the-ball defense as he did when he was learning how to play ping pong.

"When you hear from guys close to your Kobes and your Jordans, that's one of the things that always stuck out," Holland said. "When those guys took the next step, that's because of film study and understanding not only where you're supposed to be, but where everybody else is supposed to be on the court."

Finally, an excerpt that ties back to the earlier excerpts about how he excelled at math in high school:'

It comes as little surprise to Timberwolves coach Chris Finch that Edwards has an affinity for math. He sees it in how Edwards reads the floor, dissects film and thinks through moments of difficulty on the court.

Edwards sees math all over the court, processing the way the defense is attacking him and his teammates and making quick decisions to counter. He loves to have the ball in his hands on the perimeter, survey the court and then get into the paint to collapse the defense and find the holes.

"If there are two people on the ball, means you've got three (defenders) on four (teammates)," Edwards said. "When I got the ball, I'm just trying to make plays, trying to outthink the defense."

It's just about impossible as a Wolves fan not to fall in love with Anthony Edwards. His game, his personality and his personal story all add up to something special.

We will probably never know everything behind the decision to fire Gersson Rosas. But I will forever be thankful to Gersson for resisting all sorts of tempting offers as well as warnings from naysayers in last year's draft and ultimately giving us Anthony Edwards to breath life into what was a nearly lifeless franchise. So thank you Gersson!!

I loved Jon K's article yesterday about Ant. You guys may remember this video when he sat down with Mike Schmitz to dissect some of his play midway through his freshman season. This is the exact moment I realized there was no question about who should be picked #1 in the upcoming draft. In addition to displaying his fun personality and confidence, he also shows an exceptional understanding of the intricacies of the game as well as a desire to learn and get better. Watch a little of it, and you will be astonished how he clearly remembers every play on the screen, even though there is over 20 minutes of video. He talks intelligently and enthusiastically about every play, showing humility about what he could have done. He clearly knows his strengths, and also what he needs to get better at. His understanding of the game is incredible for a kid his age, and combined with his amazing physical gifts, promises a bright future.

It will be interesting to see how the dynamic between Ant and KAT evolves over time. If Edwards truly keeps making strides toward his ceiling, it won't be long before he's the best player on the team (KAT is still clearly the best player as of TODAY). Ant already has the biggest personality on the team. How will KAT react? He's been the guy that has been dragged through the muck and mud and stuck with the franchise during a fairly disastrous time period for the Wolves. Will he be resentful in any way if Edwards becomes the real face of the franchise?

Idk I think leadership wise the could work real well together. Not saying there Scottie and jordan. But let Ant be the larger than life and get into his team mates like Jordan. Let Kat be Scotty where he silent leader you takes care of his business night in and night out.

You could say hey that what butler was trying to do. The problem is that butler was inserted here and didn't earn his stripes. Edwards I'm assuming is earning everyone respect in that locker room including Kat. Look how in one year he's turn this whole board into fans for him as well.

I don't know that Karl-Anthony Towns has that kind of ego where he'd be upset over whose team it was. He doesn't strike me as a guy that care about that. I also think he's smart enough to realize that it takes multiple great players to contend in this league. As long as Towns gets his money, his touches, and some portion of the credit for getting the Wolves out of the basement, then I think there would be no issues. Plus, those two have excellent camaraderie despite the age difference. It really is a good pairing as long as the two make an impact in the wins column, which remains to be seen, but I'm optimistic.

Understood, but I'm not sure KAT sees himself as the silent leader. While he doesn't quite have the larger-than-life personality of Ant, he certainly is expressive and sees the Wolves as "my team".....but what if in due course it really isn't his team? Will he completely yield the leadership mantle to Ant? That's not saying he isn't still a leader, but he may not be THE leader. How does that play out?

Human entities - families, teams, street gangs, military, businesses, etc. - generally need to sort itself into a clear hierarchy in order to thrive as a functioning organization.

I hope you are right and I am not making a prediction - I just don't know. Humans are funny things. If KAT is good to go with a strong partner, that would be great. I think he's perfectly fine as being Batman to Ant's Robin. But what happens when the capes get exchanged and he's wearing green tights? I'm not so sure....

I think that KAT will be fine being second best on a winning team. I think with Butler he is more of an asshole type of guy. I don't see Ant as that, not at all, nor becoming an asshole type of dude.

Butler can be a bad team guy, which is why I think he shifted from team to team so fast. Guys simply didn't like him.

I see playing with Ant as in who wouldn't want to play with the guy. So what if he's better? I don't think KAT is so ego driven that he couldn't accept not being the best player on a winning squad.

My fear of KAT wanting out because Ant has become better which seems like it will happen is near zero.

Oh and Ant could legitimately make the All Star squad this season. I know it's just the start of the season but he looked great and has been trending up all last year. He just keeps getting better.
