Rookie of the year- who ya got?

Post by FNG »

I was a big proponent of Evan Mobley had we gotten the first pick- he would have been just what we need next to KAT. Cunningham hasn't seen the court yet and Suggs has been unimpressive, so at least now he looks the best of the big three. In the first four games he's averaging 14/8/3 with 2 blocks with a TS% of 62%- damn good start. Interestingly enough, Bickerstaff occasionally puts him at the top of a 2-3 zone, and reports are it is rather successful. So far he has been the top rookie, but we have a long way to go.

Can't wait to see Cunningham when he finally makes his debut- could be this weekend.

Yeah, Mobley has been very good. But there are others.

Duerte is leading all rookies in scoring. Not likely to continue.

Barnes has been fantastic as well.

Wagner has been solid all around.

Suggs shot has been off, but still sports a ton of potential as a do-shit player. Hiw shot will come around.

Cunningham.....going to be a stud. Most importantly, like Green in Houston, will have green light to shoot as many times as needed.

My prediction in order.....Cunningham - Mobley - Barnes

Yeah, I wouldn't bet against that trifecta. Rookies don't often contribute in a big way, but Mobley and Barnes already are. They are only going to get better. But I can't wait to see if Cunningham can be even better than them. Suggs will get better, but he's not off to a good start. This rookie crop is fun though!

5 games in... and Toronto looks great for the Scottie Barnes > Suggs pick.

17 / 8 / 2 / 54% fg

But as noted, there's no way Suggs is going to shoot 29% all season. And Barnes will have Siakam coming back into the mix.

I'm still going with the Jalen Green pick (unless Cleveland is actually a close-to .500 team all season). I just think THAT many shot attempts in 32+ minutes will translate to glossy stats. The thing is though... he's been putrid in 3 games... and incredible in one game.

Scottie Barnes and Evan Mobley continue to contribute in non-rookie ways, and I have them at 1 and 1a. Duerte and Wagner have also been impressive.

Suggs and Cunningham have terrible looking statistics (a 71 ORtg for Cade in just 4 games and an 83 for Suggs with awful shooting by both), but I would argue their contributions belie their stats. If you haven't seen them much, I encourage you to do so...they are both special players who find ways to contribute far beyond their stats. After watching Cade in one game, I'm more convinced his shooting will come around and he'll wind up ROY.

Overall a very impressive rookie class so far I think.

Barnes today, Mobley in a few years.
