Free agent G Reggie Jackson plans to sign a two-year, $22M deal to return to the Los Angeles Clippers as soon as allowable at 6 PM ET, agents Aaron Mintz and Erika Ruiz of @CAA_Basketball tell ESPN. The deal is the maximum LA can pay Jackson under CBA rules.

Does anyone know when we might expect to hear about the Wolves and Vanderbilt? How might his deal be affected by this Markannen speculation?

Good question.

What the Wolves SHOULD do is sign Vanderbilt to an extension regardless of whether they acquire Markkanen. One problem Markkanen clearly doesn't address is our poor defense and rebounding, which means that Vanderbilt is just as valuable to the Wolves with Markkanen as they are without.

As for what might happen, it's hard to say with Rosas. One possibility is that Vanderbilt would be dealt to Chicago as part of the deal to deal to get Markkanen. I sure hope not. Another possibility is that the Wolves withdraw their qualifying offer, believing they no longer need Vanderbilt if Markkanen is on the team. I don't see the Wolves doing that since it would make no sense. My concern is that another team would swoop in with an offer that the Wolves would not be able to match without exceeding the luxury tax threshold because of the impact of Markkanen's salary.

I agree, Lip - I fervently hope the Wolves resign Vanderbilt. Like the fella that put this video together, I think Vanderbilt is a great fit with this roster and still has significant room (and commitment) to grow:

Seems increasingly likely at this point. He was a plus player when given a fairly narrow role to play and he still is reasonably young.

Seems increasingly likely at this point. He was a plus player when given a fairly narrow role to play and he still is reasonably young.

I hope the guy that did this video and said Vanderbilt's 11.6 rebounds per 36 were ridiculous never looks up someone like Drummond's rebounding per 36. He might not be able to handle it. It was a solid video though.

Great video. Thanks for posting. It makes no sense for the Wolves to let Vanderbilt go unless he gets a contract the Wolves can't match without exceeding the luxury tax threshold. And that's true regardless of whether we end up acquiring Markkanen.

It appears to me that Gersson Rosas took his ball and went home this off-season. What I deduced from Jon Krawczynski's article in The Athletic this morning is that the Wolves feel priced out on the remaining notable free agents and they're unwilling to give up the assets necessary to acquire a needle-moving player via trade. Specifically, it appears they are holding firm on Jaden McDaniels as he's more and more coveted around the league (shocker).

Minnesota will almost certainly retain their own restricted free agents Jarred Vanderbilt and Jordan McLaughlin, and run it back this season to see what the group can produce in a full season. You're probably looking at the starting power forward in Vando and the primary backup point guard in J-Mac.

Rosas and Chris Finch also appear ready to talk ad nauseum about continuity, player development, and trusting the talent on the roster. Those will be the repetitive talking points the entire season. If we're lucky, we might even see another trip to the Bahamas and a family dinner at the Taylor's residence. Does anyone know if Alex Rodriguez and Marc Lore like meatloaf and bedtime stories? Oof.

Trip to Bahamas? What he should do is make the whole team play in Summer League and if they can't win that title, firesale for everyone.
