It won't happen because I think the Wolves have already penciled Jordan McLaughlin in as the backup point guard for next year, but is there any interest here in adding soon-to-be 24-year old Dennis Smith Jr. as a buy-low acquisition? He appeared to find some rhythm last year over a stretch with Detroit. What a weird career he's had to date, but I would be surprised if he didn't figure it out at some point. He's too physically gifted to truly give up on across the league.

Going along with Cam looking at some other guys I thought this list had some interesting players that are available except Schroeder obviously.

I think he could still find his way but I'm not sure of the fit here. Just to compare Mudiay is about a year and a half older. Part of me thinks if a team doesn't give him a shot he should go ball out in the G-league. The problem is that not every G-league team will even have a spot for him. The Wolves may have that starting Iowa Wolves PG spot locked down with Wright. I see there is some possible interest in the Mavs bringing him back. Could he someday be the next Cam Payne that finally figures it out?

There's a long, long list of point guards that bounce around from team to team before eventually finding their footing. It's said that the point guard and center positions usually have the most difficult time developing and transitioning to the NBA game. Cam Payne is a good example. Kyle Lowry and Chauncey Billups aways come to mind. Recently, we also saw Trey Burke and Markelle Fultz show some real signs of life. I think Dennis Smith Jr. could be another in the near future assuming he gets another opportunity or two. The physical ability is just too tantalizing to ignore.

I like that idea. He's definitely physically gifted. He's a classic buy-low guy. He may never pan out, but it shouldn't cost much to get him. I generally like the idea of adding young talent with high upside when you can do it without giving up a lot. Otherwise, I think the Wolves should consider signing Avery Bradley as a defensive veteran PG. He's be a win-now signing. The problem is that we'd have to open up a roster spot and that probably means withdrawing the qualifying offer to JMac.

Bledsoe to the Clippers for Rondo, Beverly and Oturu.

Does this open up a Hernangomez for Tyus trade?

Are we sure that Tyus Jones is any good at this stage in his career? It doesn't appear that way to me. I think I'd rather have Jordan McLaughlin for the minimum.

Yep. I've always like Tyus and was disappointed when we let him go. But like Cam, I'll take Jordan McLaughlin at the minimum over Tyus.

Depends what we mean by "good."

Tyus Jones has been a "plus" player for five straight seasons. The rub is that he's just "decent/good" at best. At this point, it's fair to assume he'll remain an undersized PG with limited scoring ability who can move the ball and keep things afloat for 2nd units for 17 - 20 mpg. Nothing more.

Is that worth $7.5M for a mediocre team? Dunno. Don't know what else the Wolves have planned at this point. And like others noted, if McLaughlin can be signed for $5M+ less... is he the better value despite not being quite as good?

We had a number of guys that were just flat out different players after the all-star break. Ant is the most dramatic example, as his efficiency went from abysmal to very solid for a rookie scorer. Rubio was better. DLO played better defense. Well, add Jordan McLaughlin to the list of guys that looked a lot better after a terrible first half of the season.

Bottom line....I agree that at this point I'd prefer him to the more expensive Tyus Jones (who I like too, just not at that salary).
