Wolves sign Naz Ried 2-way contact
Wolves sign Naz Ried 2-way contact
Undersized but love his skill set
Re: Wolves sign Naz Ried 2-way contact
He is a nice get on a 2-way. Dude is 255 pounds and can shoot some 3's.
Re: Wolves sign Naz Ried 2-way contact
Not a bad signing. He's not much of a shot-blocker or defender. He grabbed 7.2 rebounds per game in 27 minutes, so he's a pretty good rebounder. He hit 33.3% of his threes. He seems to play with a lot of energy. so I like this one. Here are the other undrafted players the Wolves should consider signing for Summer League and perhaps beyond:
Tacko Fall - C
Louis King - SF
Shamorie Ponds - PG
DaQuan Jeffries - SG.

Would have been more than okay with Reid at 43 so getting him as an undrafted free agent is an absolute steal.

King would be a really nice pickup. Wanted him at 43.

I was reading reviews on Reid. Apparently, there are questions regarding his motor. That might be why he fell. Moreover, watching more videos of Reid, he reminds me of A. Payne.
As I reflect, I think it was a mistake giving him Reid one of our two-way contracts. I'd much rather see those two-ways go to King, Jeffries, and/or Ponds.

FWIW Bryan Oringer the guy that did the Culver video said he heard that King did not come off well at all in his interviews etc (said to treat all you interactions like a a real job interview) and had heard before the draft he was not going to get drafted.
As for Naz Reid being A Payne...come on now he was a freshman and from what i read he was more of a guy that played out of control because he was going 100 miles an hour and emotional than has a bad motor. It's a two-way contract for a guy that was rated as a guy that was supposed to be drafted by the draft experts. The knock on him by Sam V and the guy on his podcast is that he doesn't have much lift which is why he doesn't have the block numbers etc. they also said there is value in having a guy with his skill and length that's 255 pounds. He turns 20 in August.

Reid is very gifted offensively and can make his impact felt on the glass. Why he dropped was because he's still a work in progress defensively and because he lacks great athleticism. But the comparison to Payne is a bad one from where I sit. Payne was a chicken with his head cut off on a basketball court. I'd argue Reid right now has more natural ability and basketball awareness than Payne ever did.

Reid is a local kid from Jersey and played a lot in the NY streetball circuit. He's part of Jelly Fam (y'all know Isaiah Washington who used to be a Gopher. He rolls with them). He's probably the most talented of that bunch, but he has stuff he needs to get out of his system. He had too many games where he was needed to be impactful and just didn't have it. Signing him to a two-way cannot possibly hurt.
I think structure will be good for this kid. There's no such thing as a home run two-way contract.
Our 4 two-way contracts so far have been
Anthony Brown
Amile Jefferson
Jared Terrell
C.J. Williams
From a talent perspective, Reid blows them all out of the water. Now it's on this team to do something I've been yelling for them to do: actually develop players and make actual use of their G-League team.
I'm intrigued to see who the next guy will be, but there's talent there with Reid. Let's see if they can get something out of it.

Reid definitely blows those guys out of the water talent-wise. But comparing Wolves' signees with prior Wolves' signees sets the bar about as low as it can go.
