So your saying every smart organization is staying away from dlo except us and the pelinka led Lakers?

Lol. You might be on to something. I think the Knicks are interested in DLo -- which just reinforces your point. :) As I've said, I'm torn on whether to pursue DLo. There are legitimate concerns surrounding him. Two key questions are (1) how big a contract would we have to give him, and (2) what assets would we have to give up to clear space or execute a 3-way deal to get him. A max deal would be hard enough to swallow. Giving up valuable young players like Okogie or a future 1st round pick would make it even tougher. I'm on record saying I'd pursue DLo. But I'm not among those who are enthusiastic about the idea.

Utah Traded for Conley. Nobody is gonna argue that when healthy he is Babette replayed especially for Utah who is looking to be a legit contender.

Pacers I'd guess they may have decided Rubio is a worthwhile guy and probably will cost around half as much as Russell. Dipo and Russell Long term could either be dynamic or maybe get in each other's way. The Pacers also have to decide how much they are gonna pay other guys. They may prioritize someone else instead of paying Russell. The Pacers have done well in the past getting some guys and getting more out of them either having them play better for them or the sum of the parts work well together. I can see Rubio being part of the later. They might also get him cheaper if he is gonna be the starter and key role. It's possible no other team really offers that to him.

A younger PG that hasn't been discussed may or may not be available is Terry Rozier. Does Boston bring him back and install him as their starting PG? Would that eliminate another possible Russell spot? What kind of market will there be for Rozier? What value does he have around the league? Do teams still think he has potential to be an above average starting PG? This offseason keeps getting more interesting the more you dig into it. July is coming soon and it's gonna be wild.

Boston is in a quandary of sorts. That team has played with a scoring lead guard since rondo left. IT, Irving, etc... All reports are that there is bad blood between rozier and the Celtics, but I think $$ fixes that. If the Celtics arent in the hunt for dlo, he might come cheaper than expected without a market. Us and the Lakers, and thats assuming Rosas even has an interest in Dlo.

As for Rozier, Id rather convert Okogie into a Marcus Smart type to be our lead guard.

Good thoughts.

One podcast I was listening to today mentioned the perception around the league for Boston with players is not good. It's weird right but also obviously not surprising.Remember Smart was moving on last year wasn't talking to the team for weeks and it all got fixed...like you said money. Rozier I think it was about his role. At this point his role would be the starting PG for the Celtics. I think that would fix a lot. Is he a good defender? If so he might actually be a good fit as a 3 and D guy for the Lakers. Bobby Marks and Zach Lowe said the market for Beverly might be quite high. Marks said because of what he has heard he thinks Beverly is gonna make out well and might get 12-15 million a year this summer. They both think he is gonna get 10 million for sure.

I like the idea of Okogie as a Marcus Smart type but I don't think he is that type of guy. Smart played PG in college and on a recent podcast someone said he is a freaking genius IQ basketball player. I'd guess Culver is more likely to turn into a guy that can run offense than a Okogie. Rozier if he was available...it would depend on price for me and I would have to do some more homework on him.

Ideally the spots dry up for Russell and he realizes the big offers aren't there and he wants to come here and we get him for less money and only have to pay someone to take Teague in a sign and trade. That seems relatively doable. If we can get DLO for something more like 20 million a year...sign me up for sure. Lots of stuff has to break right for it to happen but yeah we will see.

We now have two recent examples of teams offloading bad contracts with draft compensation in order to sign, re-sign, or acquire marquee players that were pivotal to their franchise's success. There's the often-discussed Golden State move to dump Andris Biedrins, Richard Jefferson, and Brandon Rush in order to clear cap space that would be used on Andre Iguodala. Now we can add Toronto's move to dump DeMarre Carroll in order to re-sign Kyle Lowry and Serge Ibaka to the same category.

The decision to offload bad contract(s) with draft compensation in order to pursue a free agent is a sound business move, however, how we reflect on the success of that move is by the production of that free agent. It was a success for Golden State because Iguodala was one of the best "sixth man" players in the league and even an NBA Finals MVP (wrongfully, but he has the award) over the course of his contract. It was a success for Toronto because both Lowry and Ibaka were monumental in their development from playoff team to conference contender and eventually NBA champions.

My point is that if the acquired player is going to positively impact your team in a considerable way, it's a very smart move. One [myself] could argue that Minnesota clearing bad contracts in order to sign D'Angelo Russell would give them the much-needed second star next to Karl-Anthony Towns and the ball-handler, shot-creator, shot-maker that this team has lacked for approximately 15 years. One [myself] could argue that the addition of Russell -- without giving up Robert Covington -- would put the Wolves back in the playoffs and would be a huge step forward in their plan to become a contender in the Western Conference.

The question is, will Boston replace Irving or go with Rozie/Smart or wonder they would have interest in Teague? Could potentially be another positive value landing spot.

I think they key could be finding a team that needs a good vet PG and if that team needs a rotation big, even better. Something like this, with or without filler

Third team gets:
Teague + Gorgui + 1st

Wolves get:
Russell to the Wolves

Nets get: 2nd rounder from third team

I don't see the Celtics being content to go with Rosier and Smart as their PGs. So I could see them having interest in Teague. On the other hand, the Celtics will have the cap room to sign Russell themselves. They could also sign lesser free agent PGs. Darren Collison, for example, would be a cheaper alternative who is as good as Teague and a better three-point shooter. A couple other options are Quinn Cook and Daniel House Jr., both of them excellent three-point shooters. But if Boston got a future 1st round pick from the Wolves as you suggest, then I could see the Celtics going for it. Danny Ainge loves acquiring 1st round picks.

Yes the reality is if you are convinced that Russell (or quite frankly anyone available) is going be a top 2 guy or really even top 3 guy on a championship level team you make it happen. I don't know if Russell is that guy or not. Cam seems to think so. There is a sound argument for it.

Fair point. This all falling together is likely to involve quite a few free agency dominoes and roster moves, but damn.. if it happened it would be pretty fun to watch lol

From the comments section of that Canis Hoopus article:

"Here's the list of players who've started 60 games at age 22 or younger, had 40% or higher AST%, and 25% or more USG%. It's a five player list of multiple time all-stars, none of whom peaked at 22."

Sorted by WS:

1. Chris Paul, NOH
2. Russell Westbrook, OKC
3. Isiah Thomas, DET
4. D'Angelo Russell, BRK
5. Trae Young, ATL

I think once NY finds out no one is coming - they will need to have to acquire an ENTIRE team. I think they would be a great landing spot for Teague in a 3-way to sign and trade DLO and toss in a 2nd from us and a 2nd from NY going to NJ. Everyone wins (except NJ who will end up with Butler and Kyrie getting into a fight in the middle of a game).
