Games 21-30

Post by thedoper »

I was 3-7 in games 11-20 but only one game off my predicted record of 11-9. My predictions as still a positive 11-9. The good news is that after 20 we're 500 which is likely above most of our expectations. The bad news is that the pain is coming. Here we go:

My prediction is 4-6 but I think i might be being generous. This would put us at 14-16 after 30.
Still not too shabby.

I could see is winning between 3 and 7 games . . .   (ha!).

The reality is we've seen some sort of mental breakdown from our star who seems to be holding a 1 man pity party.

The reality is we've stopped working the ball around, primarily when we have a traditional point guard. KAT needs more touches so he can draw and kick earlier in the clock.

The reality is with our length we should be a better rebounding team on both ends but we aren't working hard enough, We aren't playing in the moment to ensure the rebound. That's not coaching.

If Teague is injured then he needs to sit. We just don't look good on either end when he plays.

Wiggins is starting to drift again as well. He's giving up offensive rebounds.  He's never had good rebounding numbers but earlier in the year he was doing a helluva job boxing out.

Sometimes during games I feel like the Wolves are a team of 8th grade boys that are very sensitive and prone to distraction.

Yeah, this is going to be a rough stretch. I think 4 wins seems reasonable, although it's really hard to predict which ones will be wins vs. losses.

Best-case scenario, the Wolves win eight of their next 10 games with the two losses being against the Lakers and Clippers.

Worst-case scenario, the Wolves win two of their next 10 games with the two wins being against the Thunder and Warriors.

Now, what I think will happen is a 3-7 or 4-6 run where the Wolves are competitive in just about every game but for whatever reason -- mismanaging games, poor defense, cold shooting nights, best players don't show up, etc. -- they lose winnable games and leave fans disappointed but yet somehow optimistic.

I think the wolves will favored in the NO and GS games. I see them going 2-8 over the stretch with a best case as 4-6. This team is still way too soft to expect any consistency. I don't know what has happened to KAT, but he looks like a ghost on D.

Never mind. This Oklahoma City game could very easily be a loss. I hope we all enjoyed those first 10 games. Ha.

So the Wolves are in the midst of a 7 game losing streak and things aren't exactly looking great. However they are still in the mix of a group of 6 teams with similar losing records vying at this point for 7 and 8 seeds. They are still in this thing and could end up getting back to .500 with a good stretch of basketball.

You're right, Monster. This team wasn't as good as their record might have suggested prior to this 7-game losing streak. But I'd say they're not as bad as they've been during this losing streak. This is a team in transition. The coaching staff is implementing a new system, playing young players and experimenting with different rotation pieces. Too many were mislead by the team's early success and set themselves up for disappointment. I think this team will remain within striking distance of the 8th seed, but ultimately end up in the lottery. What I'm looking for are (1) KAT improving his defense, (2) Wiggins continuing to play at the level he's been at so far this season, and (3) improvement and positive signs from our young guys, particularly, Okogie, Culver, Layman, Nowell, Reid and Martin. Then I want to see what our front office does with our few valuable assets outside our young guys, namely Teague, Covington and next summer's first round draft pick.

I'd like to see a front office that actually had a clue. We didn't need a whole new offense. The problem was defensively, but if you are going to create a new offense around 3pt shooting it would have been nice to bring in some 3pt shooters. We need to stop putting the cart before the horse!
