Would you be in approval to do this moving forward for the 8th seed team?
I think it would be interesting for teams that are healthy at the end of the season that record doesn't reflect how good they are.

I will always be for win or go home games!

I generally like it. Having fewer teams that tank is a good thing for the league. I will watch those games.

I might be changing my attitude on the play-in tournament.
Initially, I was decidedly in the "get off my lawn, you trouble-making kids" camp.

Re: NBA's play-in tournament
Oh man, how could anyone NOT love this?! This is going to make for a more interesting race at the end of the regular season and kick off the playoffs with a bang. I'm on the lawn and making trouble! Glad to hear you're joining Abe and bleed!
There are so many reasons this is awesome.
As doper mentioned, this discourages tanking because more teams than usual will have a shot at the playoffs and will be less likely to tank down the stretch. That's going to lead to more competitive games.
In addition to motivating teams usually on the outside looking in to try to get the 9 or 10 seed, this is going to add additional motivation to those slightly better teams to move up and get the 7 or 8 seed, so they'll have an advantage in the play-in tournament. And obviously, teams will also have added incentive to try even harder to win to get the 5 or 6 seed to avoid having to do a play-in. Think of how many more meaningful games that's going to lead to down the stretch.
Also, as bleed hints at, having a play-in tournament could help weed out a weaker team that might have gotten the 7 or 8 seed because they had a healthy season, and give a chance to a streaking team that maybe had a worse record because of injuries earlier in the year but would make for a more competitive playoff team. That should hopefully mean fewer 1-8 and 2-7 sweeps in the first round as the 1 and 2 seeds may have to face a hotter team if they were able to win both games. The 7 and 8 seeds can't really complain because they still have the advantage of only having to win one game, and yet it still opens the possibility for a hotter team to make the first best-of-seven series, which could lead to a more competitive first round.
And then, obviously as Bloop pointed out, in the play-in tournament itself, we'll get at least four and possibly up to eight extra elimination games, since the lower seeds will have to win twice. Remember how fun that Wolves-Nuggets game was a few years ago? That was one game. Imagine the league gets 4 to 8 of those extra every year. Elimination games are always the best. This format gives us at least four more of them this year (and hopefully every year)!

Wouldn't the play in games mean more games overall? And like you said these will be elimination games so people will be watching more than a regular season game. Players will likely get some playoff paychecks out of this and everyone is going to get more money. As Michael Scott would say "This is a win win win."
