They're too top heavy. I think a Covington deal is also gonna be tough to pull off for the type of value this team needs. I think the trade to make with Covington is still this summer with GS depending on our draft spot. With G playing so well we could probably do Covington, G's then expiring and a protected first for Russell and both teams come out happy. If we get a top 5 pick though I'd stick with the PG's in the draft and find a different deal for Covington.
Agreed on all points here.
....and my bet is we'd be even worse than we are now. Dieng + Cov > than DLO. Our defense would take a massive hit - these two guys have keyed our resurgence defensively and DLO's offense isn't enough to make up for it. But reasonable people can disagree on this.

So what are we going to do in this case?
I'm not sure what you mean. What do I think the Wolves will do?

No, since you don't have reasonable people, what's the next course of action. It was a joke Q.

G is Towns' backup and this FO and coaching staff isn't playing 2 bigs so he's not as valuable to us as someone else. Covington can't help Towns on defense and can't create offense so we won't be good defensively with him and Towns anyways while offensively we are much better with Russell than Covington. If Towns doesn't get better defensively it frankly doesn't matter who else is on the team on the wing and at guard because they can't cover him up defensively from those positions. Russell is also 7 years younger than Covington so unless you think this ship is turning around fully in the next 2-3 years to actually compete then Covington is aging out anyways when Russell will still be in his prime.

Abe, I think the emergence of a 3-point shot by him is a game changer when it comes to his value around the league. We know he can play good defense if not having to totally cover up for ineptitude (think of the days when he was on the 2nd unit with Crawford or having to play with a Wiggins/LaVine tandem). I also think the issue of him being bullied inside is less problematic these days since teams almost never post up anymore.
So yeah, between the evolution in his game and the NBA itself, I actually think he's playing pretty damn close to that contract.

Another plus for Thibs right? Haha
Heh, it's weird how fast things can change....Thibs certainly never foresaw either of the things I mentioned above (Gorgui's shooting or the trend away from post-ups).
Now, my guess is Gorgui would need to sustain this for a while longer before teams would start sniffing around or the Wolves could truly get equal value in return, but it's actually not out of the realm of possibility at this point.

I think it is huge that he has had a good partnership with Napier. Gorgui last good year was Thibs first year and him and Lavine had a really nice 2 man game going with each other on offense. Gorgui lost that and he played really poorly, now it feels like he has a good 2 man game working again with Napier.
It will be interesting now though how when Kat comes back how will Gorgui minutes differ. Will he regress not getting consistent starters minutes and not playing with better players as a starter, it will be curious to know.
I would say one of the takeaways from this season is the Wolves had 2 terrible contracts going into the season in Wiggins and Gorugi. Now those 2 might not be playing to those contract #s they both have moved from massive negative assets to possible neutral assets or maybe even positive assets. What is a huge development going forward.
