Yeah I think he is sort of like Escobar a guy that guys really like and is someone that keeps things light in the clubhouse. I was at a Wedding a couple weeks ago and there was a guy there that had a pretty similar haircut and as stocky as that guy was he was skinny looking compared to el tortuga. :)

If Mollie were still manager, I would have predicted Garver to back up Castro...he always seemed to consider Willians only when necessary. But we don't know how Baldelli will look at this. We all talk about Astudillo's bat, but as jester points out, his defensive numbers aren't bad. He has allowed no passed balls in his 109 innings behind the plate, and ranked 38thh out of 115 catchers in called strikes above average (framing). I think he will get a lot of innings behind the plate in spring to either earn a spot on the roster as a catcher or be forced to make the team as a utility guy. In any event, it will be fun to watch!

None of these guys really blow you away overall as players but I feel like they can be an asset (as opposed to annoverall liability) as a group for the Twins. I agree it was a bit confusing what the Twins did with Astudillo last year. I mean I can come up with reasons why what was done was done but I would have liked to see him more at catcher. I'd be curious to know if Jester has some contacts that could give us some insight as to his abilities there.

Sadly monster I don't have a lot of connection since Rocco took over the guys I knew in scouting department are now with tigers and marlins. My one buddy did tell me the twins did win a bidding with 4 other teams to sign Astudillo back in the day.

Good story about how Schoop and Cruz are really close. Probably is the reason we landed Cruz.

Slegers DFA'd to add Cruz. I can live with that if they lose him.

lol I'm disappointed in you Bleed. I will admit Thought yesterday I was trying to come up with the Twins likely rotation and the guys that have spots locked in and...I knew I was missing someone. I had forgotten Gibson. I'm getting old I guess.

I'd guess that the Twins sign some sort of legit reliever but if not and Slegers if he is claimed is the only younghish guy the Twins lode this offseason I think most people would be pretty happy with that especially after people went crazy figuring we would lose a couple guys in the Rule 5 draft and fortunately evened up losing nobody.

Ha! I actually was intrigued by slegers because of his 6-10 frame, but he has stunk in the majors and frankly not been that good in the minors. No big loss at all.

The odyssey of Oliver Drake continues as does the Rays amazing ability to basically be in what seems like virtually every trade this offseason. Twins DFA Drake Rays claim him. DFA him a few days later and the Jays claim him. Over a month later the Rays trade $70,000 to get him back. Ok Twins I'm glad you let him go this is kinda hilarious. I kinda feel bad for the guy though.

Video of Astudillo doing stuff in winter ball plus another long article about him being interesting but most of it is stuff you probably already know.
