Rubio behind Rusell Westbrook for All Defense team...

Post by AbeVigodaLive »

Yikes.

The sad thing is that people will see Westbrook over the past 7 games and assume he was like that for the season's first 90 games... when in reality, he might have been closer to James Harden than Ricky Rubio.

Yeah Westbrook has the ability to play D but he doesn't do it all the time. I think Rubio took his defense up a notch this season and with Thibs running things...with better defensive principals for him to buy into AND his teammates...well Rubio might get more votes a year from now.

Whiteside was on the 2nd team. There have been a number of articles written that make me think he wasn't actually deserving of that distinction but I don't care too much. Other than that I probably won't argue any of the guys shouldn't be there. There are some pretty good defenders on that page.

Side note: What was with the terrible formatting? Did someone miss taking a word processing class in school? Maybe their employer needs to pay for some professional development? I'm being nitpicky it probably was converted from another device with a different software program or version. That still jumps out at me like that blogger who posts his stuff on this forum for us to read from time to time.

From what I've read... Whiteside's defense was all-world the second half of the season. I know there were reports early in the season that the Heat were playing better defensively with him on the bench... but I believe those were reversed quickly. Convincingly.

Thanks for the info. I read there were some similar problems with him in the playoffs so that's another angle I was considering.

Two points
1. It's a vote, no actual competition. I just don't think a lot of these guys do the homework on it. Because before they can do the homework, there has to be an agreement as to what the homework actually should be. They're beat reporters who watch the games involving their teams. That's not really research.

2. Westbrook's PER against: 17.5. Rubio's: 18.2. And they play the same schedule because they are in the same division. I don't think Rubio is bad at defense, but it's OK that he lost a vote to another good defender.
