Salley's comments yesterday were really stupid and uninformed, and he has been widely ripped the past 24 hours. The city an NBA player plays in falls far behind the chance to win and making money in today's NBA. Was Kevin Love excited to go to Cleveland because of the lovely climate and lively nightlife? Salley suggests that nobody buys jerseys of players who don't play on the coast, but 9 of the top 15 most popular jerseys are for non-coastal teams. Salley seems unaware of things like the internet and television, which allow you to easily follow any player you want.

The four teams left in the playoffs are a Canadian team and three teams from among the least attractive cities in the US...Cleveland, Oklahoma City and Oakland. Hmm...I guess that's why we never hear of guys like Curry, Durant, Westbrook and James! I generally find Salley to be an entertaining guy, and also quite enlightened in many ways, but he really crapped the bed on this one.

I suspect Ricky regretted something he posted and deleted it after kekgeek had quoted it. I don't think Ricky meant his comment to be bigoted. I guess I've never understood the Salley gay rumors (not that it matters anyway) since he has been married for 20 years and has several kids from multiple relationships. It may be because he is so openly supportive of gay marriage, a stance that not many pro athletes are public with (except for punters).

Yes, John Salley needs to step forward and be honest that he is.....against playing on a non-coast team. The world is much more accepting now then when he was playing. I just hope no one uses that against him to fire him. He has as many rights as those attracted to....land locked cities.

I was listening to Howard Stern one morning, and he had some pornstar on who said Salley was HER favorite sex partner ever. Maybe some day he can admit that he likes both.....coastal and landlocked cities.

Don't take it so personally, guys. Many NBA players have debunked that whole "I don't want to play in MIN" thing. If it really bothers you, go follow the Mild, because every time a NHL player has a partial no-trade, the Mild are at the top of the preferred destinations list.

Thanks for bringing the PC into this thread, it really needed it. As for his comments, I think he is way off base. The NBA is a global company, this isn't the 1980's anymore, athletes can be universally marketed relatively easily. The average NBA fan is going to be a fan of the winningest teams, no matter the market. If they lived in New York of course they would be Knicks fan, but if you have an NBA fan from Kansas, do you really think they care where the team is located? KAT and Andrew would be stupid to leave such a good core of talent, but there has been no indications they will leave. Besides, I think both are low ego, team first types of guys which is very favorable for us.
