Dwayne Casey
McHale fired him, right? With a 500 record, something no one has done since?
I wonder where he would have been in our coaching search if available.
I follow the Raps because I love the city of Toronto (have a cousin there), and I always thought Casey got screwed by McHale (who didn't?)
Anyone think they have a shot against the Cavs?

I do not think they have a shot, I give them credit for winning games at the end of the day that is the goal, but they have not looked good doing so. Also if they would have lost game 7 to the Pacers Casey would have been fired. I think he is a solid coach but Thibs is a lot better in my mind

I seem to remember talk that Glen was wanting him gone and KG wanted Wittman. Regardless the level of coaching for a number of years was pretty substandard as was the talent. Ironically it looks like McHale would have been terrific coach for the team during that time but it would have been tough to move on unless they had hired Hoiberg as the GM which would have worked out better than Kahn but...anyway glad we can move on from those chapters.
Casey is a good coach IMO. How good? Idk maybe we will find out in this series. I don't give them much of a chance against the Cavs but we don't know for sure which teams will show up. Will Jonas be able to play and be effective with that ankle? Will the Raps look more like they did today or will Lowry and Derozen shoot poor percentages again for a bunch of games? Will the Cavs keep playing the terrific basketball of the first 2 series? I'd put my money on the Cavs but that's not exactly going out on a limb or anything. Having said that Lowry has had some terrific playoff series and Carrol is a guy that matches up with Lebron about as good as anyone can. I can see some intrigue by this series but I am not counting on it but I won't be shocked if Toronto makes things interesting.
Re: Dwayne Casey
I met and spoke with Dwane at the Vegas Summer League one year before his Raptors job. I have a hard time seeing the Raptors having a chance to win 3 games but I wish him the best. I was against his dismissal at the time but would not support hiring him over Thibs.

There's a big talent gap between these two teams, so I see Toronto as having little chance of winning more than a game or two. On the other hand, I have learned to never underestimate the impact Kevin Love can have on a team.

LOL, LST. Love has been a pretty big part of their dominance of late, much to your chagrin I'm sure.
As for Casey, he's taken that Toronto team as far as they can go, so kudos to him. Talent still trumps coaching in this league and it seems hard to envision ANY coach taking the Toronto roster past a healthy Cleveland team.

I don't know...he's rebounding well, but if he only makes 32% of his shots when they get to the finals like he did against Atlanta, LeBron isn't going to pass the rock to him anymore. 32% is good enough to get it done against a banged-up, weaker Hawks team, but it ain't gonna cut it against the Warriors or Thunder,
That said, there are some indicators that Kevin might actually be maturing and making an attempt to interact with his teammates. While nobody on the Wolves hung with him when he was here (except the equipment guy), he has posted photos on Instagram of socializing with his teammates. Maybe he's growing up.

What an odd series for Kevin Love. It's fair to mention he shot only 32% over 4 games... but it's incredible how he got to that percentage.
He shot 19 - 40 on three pointers. (48%)
He shot 4 - 31 on two pointers. (13%)
Has that ever happened before? That's crazy. For the record, I don't know how a guy that height (not named Mark Madsen) can be that bad inside the arc.
_______________
As for hanging out with teammates... are these rumors. Rumors with billows of smoke around them... or a raging inferno? I don't know. I don't know if Kevin Love is an arrogant loner prick. Or, if he's alienated by teammates. Or something in-between. But I remember reading a book by Paul Shirley (NBA 12th man) about how he talked to the coaches and equipment managers more than teammates. Here he was, a Midwestern kid from a stable family armed with an Engineering degree... trying to have a conversation with guys that were... for lack of better terms... very very different than him in almost every way. Granted, when you're a star player in the NBA, you have to find SOME way to interact with teammates in some way. Maybe Love has finally figured out how?

Yeah, what matters most is on-the-court chemistry. These guys don't need to be buds outside of the workplace. Wasn't Ray Allen a bit of a loner with that Celtics squad?
I think this translates to other small work group situations as well, whether it be great bands or great executive teams in successful companies.

I don't know what it is, but I just can't get myself to root against Love. Maybe it's the years of pulling for him to be great that is ingrained in me, but I find myself hoping he does well. I had no problem rooting against KG when he left, it's kind of a strange phenomena.
