I wonder if Kevin Ollie would come here as Thibs' lead assistant coaching the most up-and-coming team in the NBA. A long shot? Maybe, but not crazy depending on how interested Ollie is in coaching in the NBA.

I think Ollie is going to be a terrific NBA coach someday...he was my first choice to replace Mitchell. But as much as I would love him to come here as Thibs' assistant, he has a five-year contract at UConn that could get him over $3 million per year with incentives. The only way he's leaving UConn is for a head coaching job in the NBA.

Crickets on the front office front too other than the mass firing. I wonder whether Thibs and Layden already know who they want and are just waiting to announce or if they're still pondering. I'm not impressed if they're still pondering. They should have known who they'd pursue when they interviewed for their respective jobs. I recall JVG saying before his interview that he'd put together a list of who he'd want on his coaching and front office staffs. Not sure what they're waiting for to finish out the front office staffing. We're well into the draft prep process.

As for the coaching staff, maybe Thibs is waiting for his top choices to finish their pursuit of head coaching positions -- e.g., Adriene Griffin. Or maybe they're still waiting to hear back from candidates who were'n't sure when asked. Sounds like Silas is highly coveted as a first assistant or head coach, but it would appear that if he doesn't get the head spot in Houston he'll end up the lead assistant for the Warriors.

By all accounts, sounds like Griffin would be a great choice, but he might end up as the Rockets head coach and, if not, he might have a problem getting out of his Hornets contract. I'd like to see D'Antoni come here as top assistant. He's offer some offensive heft to go along with Thibs' defensive expertise. But we're still waiting to hear whether D'Antoni gets the Houston job. D'Antoni, Griffin, Silas (others?) all waiting for Houston to decide. Crap, the Rockets organization is holding up the entire f'ing League.

I also like the idea of Stockton as an assistant, although I'm not sure about him as lead assistant. Nash is intriguing but I've read he doesn't want to coach. I hope it doesn't end up being Sam Cassell. And I'm not interested in Bicketstaff.

How about Ime Udoka as Thib's top assistant? He was touted as a possible head coach candidate around the League. Pop has publicly raved about him.

Lip IMO you need to have a little more patience. It was Friday they let people go. To me if you are gonna let people go let them go. You must have a reason you want to move on then there is no reason to keep them just because you don't have someone to instantly pick up the slack. Whoever they do hire will have been doing draft prep too. Of course team may not be thrilled to let those folks go since they are doing their own draft prep and they may not want to um give up anything lol If they haven't hired a person or 2 to help out after a week or so I would be a little more concerned. They still have quite a few staff left also. Layden has been around forever I feel pretty comfortable he knows what he is doing.

Griffin was on the Magic staff so...I would think he can have whatever recourse he wants to get out of that contract since Skiles was fired. Maybe you meant Silas. Houston is holding things up. Either they are nuts or they are smart to interview everyone (I heard that Cool turned down an interview) but they should end up with someone good. That's a weird tricky roster. It may be the toughest/trickiest job that's been available because of Harden, some uncertainty of the roster and some expectations of trying to get back to being a contender.

Monster -- I meant Griffin, but I also meant to say Magic, not Hornets. Good point about the impact of Skiles' departure on Griffin's ability to get out of his contract. I was just reacting to the what Doogie apparently said.

I'm definitely losing patience. Let's finish the front office staff! Shouldn't have to wait for that. Maybe they're holding open an assistant GM position for KG if he decides to hang it up as a player. :). Regarding the assistant coach positions, they must be waiting on Griffin's efforts to land a head coaching position.

Man this stuff takes time. You gotta probably get some permission from the team then talk to the person you want to hire and they might want to take more than a few minutes or hours to mull things over. Not everyone is waiting on the edge of their seat hoping for Layden or Thibs to call them so they can say "Yes!" :)

Something else to think about. We don't know the reasons some people were let go. We know the deal with Arnie but maybe someone else in that group wasn't all in either. Maybe someone had something on their employment file that made it the right time to let them go. Maybe Milt or Babcock said "hey this guy is pretty good at what he does but there is a couple things you should consider..." We have either been in a situation where there is a take over or have close friends or family that have gone through it. Some people get kind of a raw deal but some people it was time for them to move on. Maybe that didn't happen here but we don't know.

For all we know Thibs LOVES Rubio and Rubio is still a little pissed at Milt for that whole Middleton Rubio thing or maybe Thibs wasn't happy with how that was handled and that could have had a small part in why they decided to move on. Uber speculation there (doubt this scenario has merit lol) but I'm just coming up with some stuff we don't always think about when people are let go.
