Wiggins' shooting stroke

Post by wolvesfaned [enjin:12937536] »

Is it me or has Wiggins really improved his release? It looks more like Klay Thompson than Markelle Fultz now in my eyes. And the release point is higher than before.

Good thread and breakdown. Whatever he has going on his his stroke he is clearly more confident right now. The guy is shooting from way beyond the arc very confidently. In 2 games he has averaged 6 3 point attempts per game which is a pretty significant development of his shot has improved.

I haven't noticed anything different, although I don't watch super carefully. I feel like he's always had a nice, high release and great arc. While he's not quite as natural of a shooter as guys like Durant, there is no reason he can't keep getting better, ala Kawhi Leonard. Wiggins' biggest problem is shot selection, as he has a tendency to take too many contested long 2's.

I agree with Q. The stroke looks the same. But based on his shooting percentages, he's clearly been more successful so far this season with that stroke. I think Wiggins is taking better shots so far this season. I think that has something to do with Butler drawing a lot of defensive attention and reducing Wiggins' ball-handling responsibilities. Wiggins has had some nice looks, and he's knocking them down. He's also rebounding better. And I'll note that I think he's defending better too.

Cool -- If you're out there, I'd like to hear you weigh in on this. You've been high on Wiggins and you see the game through a coach's eyes.

What I like in the two games so far is that he looks more comfortable on taking quick catch and shoot 3's. Before, he has a trndency to dribble first before he shoots and he was more accurate with that than straight up catch and shoot 3. The two games so far it has been straight up catch and shoot.

I like him taking 6 3's a game so far. But I look at boxscores the other day and saw that multiple players are taking 8-10 3s a game! This seems to be the new trend right now and it makes 6 3 attempts looks few. If wig can shoot the 3 at 40% then he needs to take 8-10 of thise like the rest of the league seems to be trending to.

I do believe Wig was shooting well to start off last season too, but cooled off considerably from 3 point range. Hopefully he remains consistent this season with more defensive focus on Butler.
