Tanking or blowing the whole thing up.

Post by Porckchop »

Tanking in the hopes of a getting a top 3 pick that could turn this roster around on his own seems so unlikely. I see more hope on the horizon by cashing in any valuable assets and starting from scratch at this point. But realistically both options seem hopeless. Sigh

Its always the least hopeless path that we try to take with this franchise. Theres probably no real solutions. But the only hope we have at all is lightning in a bottle on a draft pick, so the more kicks at the can the better i guess. I think its clear its not going to be KAT, and it probably wont be anyone on our current roster.

You can't win with one player either though. You need two top 10 players (Lakers) if not 3 top 25 (Brooklyn). We got one top 25. We still need two more. If not you need a LeBron who comes around once every 20 years. Even then he needed more. That's the reality.

Can we get three stars by trading KAT?

I think it's too early to consider trading KAT. I think we have another season with KAT before he starts to push behind the scenes for a trade with two years left on his deal. In the meantime, you hope that KAT gets healthy and that either Edwards or McDaniels starts to look like a star in the making by next season. Or maybe the Wizards get restless and trade Beal to the Wolves later this season in exchange for Edwards, Culver, Ricky and two future unprotected first round picks - 2023 and 2025.

If the Wolves end up trading KAT late next season or the summer after next season, he will bring a huge return that can help seed a rebuilding effort.

Can you even get one star here to join Kat? And even if you could where does that position this team in the West. Barely keeping the head above water and most likely treading it for year's to come.
Time to blow it up and let the shrapnel fall where it may.
