Reid has gone from a highly-touted high school recruit to an overweight-yet-talented, defensive liability as an NBA prospect to an undoubtedly good undrafted free agent signing who has already shown signs of improvement where needed most -- his body and his defense. He made it clear last season that he could replace Gorgui Dieng as the backup center at a much cheaper cost and he's done exactly that. He's also been serviceable as a starter in Karl-Anthony Town's' absence -- though we obviously still miss KAT dearly.

For a 21-year old making the minimum this season AND the next several years, he might be Minnesota's best value player on the roster with Jordan McLaughlin and Jarred Vanderbilt as alternative choices.

We need to give Rosas some credit for how he did at the "bottom" of our roster while deservedly lambasting him for what he's done in the middle and near the top. The reason I use quotes is because it's hard most nights for me to differentiate between our cheap picks and signings and the guys we're paying $7M or more to.

This group includes all my favorite former G-League players: Naz Reid (Undrafted FA); Jarred Vanderbilt (trade); Jordan McLaughlin (2-way); and Jaylen Nowell (2nd round pick).

Seriously, you could argue that three out of four of those guys are currently our best healthy players at each of their respective positions, with Nowell potentially being just a notch or two below Beasley.

Where our roster is absolutely killing us are the upper middle class and middle class paid guys: Rubio, Juancho, Layman, Okogie, Culver, and Edwards.

I was actually thinking about that when talking to a buddy about Rosas the other day. He considers Rosas a mistake while initially I was inclined to lean toward agreeing but then recalled that he also has had some great finds at the bottom of our roster. If it's true about the high school rankings, then I am starting to think that Rosas may have a good vision on how to build the roster but does a poor job with scouting (example: it's easy to have a good philosophy of finding hidden gems by going back to HS rankings, while being unable to effectively scout talent at the top of the roster which is what drives wins and losses more than anything). If that's the case, then it would behoove them to hire someone who has a great track record in scouting.

I was reading the posts from the Warriors message board.

In summary:

Warriors vs. Twolves (part deux): Oubre and Wiseman, playing like All-Stars and are HOF bound.

Warriors vs. Suns: Trade Oubre now. Wiseman is so raw.

That's funny.

I guess what disappointed me about the Warriors series more than the bricks laid by Okogie and Rubio was the poor defensive showing both nights. Without the likes of DLO and Juancho in the lineup, we are supposedly a more defensive-oriented team (yes, with horrible shooting). Yet they scored with ease. Not good.

Does it worry you even more that this stuff is happening when the Wolves are probably considered an afterthought leading up to the games?

It's not like teams are ramping up scouting efforts to play the lowly Wolves. There are two ways to look at the spate of TOs vs. the Wolves in some of these games. Is it the long, quick Wolves defense forcing them? Or, as might be the case in the Atlanta game or others... teams playing at less than full intensity?

Maybe a bit of both?

Yeah, teams really don't need to do much to prepare IMO, but we really don't know for sure.

I think what bugs the crap out of me is the fact we have a few vets that are well off their career averages, with Rubio being the most obvious. But Okogie, DLO, Juancho, and Ed Davis are all below their career numbers. Is that just the randomness of season to season variability? Is it coaching? Is it the guys they are playing with?

We always talk about each pre-season about guys improving or assuming we'll get similar production from a vet that they have produced throughout their career. We never talk about (well, may be you do) the fact guys could stagnate or get worse. Well, that's certainly been the case this season.
