Wolves get burned by the Suns (GDT)
Re: Wolves get burned by the Suns (GDT)
Agreed that KAT is not getting enough shots.
That being said we've stopped our motion on offense trying to get KAT shots.
This last 2 weeks we are spotting up KAT with a stand around offense way too often.
We will get more out of cat if he plays less minutes and is forced to run and move around within the offense.
We also seemed to have stopped communicating on both sides of the ball.

We win those two games and I think we can roll with the loss @Dallas, @LA and may be even a loss @Phoenix wouldn't hurt so bad since it's a back to back. But the Memphis and OKC games reminded us Wolves fans that this is a team that still has a long culture of losing and a losing mentality is hard to get rid of.
To be fair... MN beat Atlanta in the middle of the Hawks' 10-game losing streak. Good win? Maybe. At the very least, it would have been a horrific loss.

Ha. That's not the only time.
I saw another incident last night where Teague missed Towns open. Obviously, it's a problem.
Obviously, many here have seen this coming for quite some time. Teague will be gone soon...
[Note: Teague did play with more urgency yesterday. He was more aggressive, just not very good. Was this just because it was Rubio. Or, is the two-game trend an indication that the Wolves have told him that he can get out of town... but that he has to help drive up his trade value first?]

I beg you... PLEASE don't become the next LST by mentioning how crappy Saunders is in 70% - 99% of your posts. We get it.
IF Saunders does indeed fail in the end (probable, it's just the nature of the NBA, especially with super young coaches for super lousy franchises from questionable coaching trees)... I'll be the first to remind everybody you were first on board the "Saunders Sucks" train.
Cool?

Ok, let's get even angrier. In the last 10 seasons, here are the list of big men seasons that have averaged more shot attempts than KAT in has in any of his time with the Wolves:
LaMarcus Aldridge - 20.6 FGA - 2013-14
DeMarcus Cousins - 20.5 - 2015-16
Anthony Davis - 20.3 - 2016-17
DeMarcus Cousins - 19.9 - 2016-17
LaMarcus Aldridge - 19.9 - 2014-15
Anthony Davis - 19.5 - 2017-18
Anthony Davis - 19.0 - 2019-20
Amare Stoudemire - 19.0 - 2010-11
Al Jefferson - 18.8 - 2013-14
Joel Embiid - 18.7 - 2018-19
Anthony Davis - 18.6 - 2015-16
Kirstaps Porzingis - 18.5 - 2017-18
Anthony Davis - 18.3 - 2018-19
DeMarcus Cousins - 18.1 - 2014-15
---------------------------------------------------
KAT is averaging 17.4 shot attempts per game this year.
---------------------------------------------------
Now if you take that same 10-year data set, guess who has the top four TS% seasons? KAT, KAT, KAT, and KAT.
He is one of the great shooters in NBA history and we can't get him more shot attempts than Al Jefferson!?
I wholeheartedly agree with the premise... BUT...
1) Can we name a single Wolves player (other than KAT) who is even an AVERAGE passer for his "position?" We all know Teague's struggles, despite the decent assists rates. Napier is alarmingly bad so far. He's much more of a super-undersized scoring 2 than anything else. He's another over-dribbler. Culver is a rookie wing.
2) My big ranting/soapbox point remains the way undersized defenders can guard in the post. Double that with the fact that (rube homer alert) I sincerely don't believe KAT gets superstar treatment yet. It's tough to get him more looks against the onslaught of shoving defenders and hackers.
3) Coaching. Yes. It's very probably a problem. But did anybody really expect such a young, green coach was going to have things figured out? At BEST... even the most optimistic Wolves fans would have had to know Saunders was going to have to improve. At BEST... we could hope for signs that he could be a great coach... someday.

For Kek, it really has more to do with him being a Thibs guy than him hating Ryan. He endured LST's anti Thibs posts for months, and this is his reaction to that.

- Fair point on #1, although even when Rubio and Tyus Jones were in the fold, we couldn't get KAT enough shot attempts.
- On #2, that's why I compared KAT only to other bigs. They are up against the same biases KAT encounters in terms of the game tilted in favor of the perimeter players.
- Ryan is young, but he's been working with this team for a while and knows KAT very well. This is also season #2. He's young in age, but not THAT young in terms of relevant experience in this case.
Again, KAT is one of the most efficient 20+ point scorers to EVER play the game. EVER! That means if KAT is taking a fadeaway mid-range turnaround jumper, it's probably not a horrible shot compared to the alternatives. No reason he shouldn't be getting 20+ looks a game, even if he takes a hit on his shooting percentages.

To be fair though... I see Embiid and Davis as the only real comparisons. For example, Stoudemire, Jefferson and even Aldridge accomplished it in different eras. It wasn't until recently that teams could EFFECTIVELY put a SG on bigs in the post because of how the games are called down there. I guess Porzingis sort of fits... but that was barely a half season for him because he got injured.
Embiid is simply too large and strong for that kind of nonsense. And Davis is just so damn versatile... As for the superstar stuff... both average a lot more free throws than Towns. (by how they play... or also because of how superstar-y they are? or a combination?)
[Note: That's not to say that Towns shouldn't or couldn't get that many attempts - or more. We agree entirely on that...]

Haha. Understand, my bad. Just frustrated and I do come from the belief coaching is overrated in the NBA. Just sick of being shitty again and our best player not getting 2nd half shots. But I'll cool down on my Saunders posts
