Old vet role players: Crawford and Gibson (both on short deals)

Players in their prime: teague, Butler, Dieng, Belly

Young players: Wiggins, Towns, Patton, tyus, the guys on the partial deals and we added a draft pick.

We can't forget that wiggins would be in his rookie year if he stayed all 4 years and towns would be a senior.

I like what Thibs has done in terms in age construction, we might not be this super young team anymore but none of our core players are close to being past their primes and we still have upside players and we didn't ruin our future to just to win now, we are still set up to win now and in the distant future.

I agree that it's a nice blend of age and experience. Except for Crawford, Gibson and maybe Tyus, all the other likely rotation players currently on the roster are either in their prime (Butler, Teague, Gorgui, Belly) or close to entering their prime (Wiggins and Towns). Crawford and Gibson are on the back ends of their careers while Tyus is a youngster at age 21. With 3 open roster spots, we will likely get a bit older signing guys like Aaron Brooks and/or Tony Allen. But resigning Bazz would balance that out a bit. In any event, I like the blend for the near and mid-term horizon.

Looking longer term, it will be interesting to see how Patton develops. Belly turns 30 after this season and is in the last season of his contract. Gibson has two years on his contract after which he'll be 34 years old. So it would be great if Patton can develop over the next two years into a major part of our big-man rotation with Towns and Gorgui. I'm also a bit intrigued by the potential of Anthony Brown as young 3-point shooting wing who might potentially develop into a rotation player over the next couple years.

Belly is interesting. The good news is he is a RFA next year. That's going to keep him from getting a huge payday. In addition I don't think he really seems to care about getting paid either based on the contract he took to come here. A few months ago I wasn't sure we could afford to keep him around and now I think we will be able to it's just how good will he be. I also think with a more vet roster he will be even more valuable than he was last year if he is healthy and in good shape. I just think his game is best when he can compliment guys and be versatile.

I think you are overeating belly quite a bit. He got better last year but over all be is and has been a average to a below average role player. He has played good for about 2 months in his NBA career.

I think a lot of us like the theory of belly a lot more (a stretch 4, who is a playmaker and good passer who is solid on D and rebounds) than what he actually has brought to the table

I was more referring to what I thought the market would be based on 2016 when everyone got paid and 2017 Patrick Patterson got 5 million a year. I've personally thought Belly's ceiling was probably good role player and I am a Belly believer. Last season I was one that said I didn't think he could be a starter but was a good role player so I don't think I am overrating him much. I agree with your comment about the theory of Belly more than what he actually is. However last season his defense was pretty good which at his size with his skill set makes him a pretty worthwhile player. If he is healthy it will be interesting to see how he does. Thibs clearly seems to like him so that probably says something.
