Darko slams Kevin Love

Post by mrhockey89 »

I feel like to a certain extent, Darko is slamming most of the new age players with his (fairly spot on) comments. I almost feel bad for Love being singled out and being slammed like this, but it's also fairly entertaining and accurate.

Plus, it's the offseason (sorta), so this is about as entertaining as it gets right now (unless you want to watch Hassan Whiteside play NBA 2k20).

Ha.
Screw Darko. "All" of them were crybabies. Ok.

Some fun stats about Darko and his unrelenting quest for playing WINNING basketball:

Darko's teams won 206 games. They lost 262 games. (.440)
BUT... as a starter: 58 wins. 150 losses. (.278)

2010: Wolves were 14 - 50 with Darko on the bench. Yuck. (.218)
BUT... the Wolves were 1 - 17 with Darko starting. YUCK! (.056)

PLUS... let's not forget that was the season the Wolves started Darko + Ryan Hollins ahead of Kevin Love. Wait. What? WHY?????

Considering how little Hollins and Milicic helped winning teams their entire careers... and that Kevin Love made multiple NBA Finals appearances... and won one while sacrificing his stats...

F off Darko.

[Note: There might be some truth to the message -- but not from a guy like Darko. The guy's only nickname is the "Human Victory Cigar" for a reason. He's just trying to justify his crappy stats and crappy career as being misunderstood. Lame.]

Love probably was a crybaby and he was for sure a shitty ass defender. A fucking turnstile only concerned with boards but never contesting a shot in his life.

KAT suffers defensively as well but at least he contests shots, even if he fouls way too much, which is probably his main issue really. KAT also is a little cry baby when it comes to his fouls or lack of calls, even if he is right. You can't cry every fucking time and then pout and lazily jog back on defense. If KAT just walls up jumps vertically with hands VERTICAL not reaching he would be a much better defender. Then don't cry about non calls on offense and run your ass back to defend.

I do think Darko is misunderstood and in some ways I feel bad for him. I think it's a sad shot he is taking at Love (although we don't have the full context and I'm certainly not watching the entire interview) considering the types of things Love has done the past few years speaking out about mental health and being one of the first athletes to offer to pay the arena workers etc. Darko was on the wolves for parts of 3 seasons which is some amazing longevity for a wolf. He did play with some suspect guys that Kahn assembled who resembled him in winning performance and yet some like Beasley at least produced some numbers. 8.2 rebounds per 36 minutes for Darko a guy with his physical gifts and position he played is...um...well I guess at least he wasn't stat huntin! Did Love stat hint? Was he a guy that wasn't exactly awesome to be around? This probably does give some more credence to that and Love has his responsibility for that but the Wolves were run terribly in almost every way for much of his time here.

I know Love was not very popular with some... I still remember some of those Rubio/Love discussions.

But what NBA player would not be ticked off about playing behind Ryan Hollins and Darko Milicic? Wouldn't it be more damning if he wasn't bitching about something so egregious? Maybe that's what Love was crying about?

Kevin Love had every reason to whine or cry about his stint in Minnesota. He was not THE problem at the time.

Quick, incomplete recap:

- Part-time starter for his first two seasons on teams that combined to lose 125 games.
- Scolded for shooting three pointers.
- STILL not getting 30 mpg in his 3rd season (65-loss team) until he goes for 30/30 and forces Wolves hand.
- All NBA player... wanted to stay in MN... but denied max contract from worst team in league.

Was he kind of annoying? Yep. Bad at defense? Yeah. On-court whiner? Sure. Maybe a bit selfish? Ok.

Who cares? The man continues to get ripped A LOT... even though there might not have been another player in the league with a greater disparity between him and the next best player on his team(s).

The Wolves fucked over Love a lot more than he cheated the team, teammates or fans over those few years.

[Note: I refuse to twist myself in knots trying to justify anything for Darko... a guy who has never shown me anything on or off the court that earns my empathy or understanding. This is just the latest thing.]

Just to be clear I pretty much agreed with your entire initial post and this subsequent one as well.

"The Wolves fucked over Love a lot more than he cheated the team, teammates or fans over those few years."

Damn Abe you are killing it with these wrap ups of guys. If you don't write a Wolves book you are depriving the world. Darko will say bad things about you!!!!

The first time I saw Darko in person, he had 10 rebounds in 4 blocks playing the entire 4th quarter against a bad Magic team that ended up winning the lottery and drafting Howard. The people I was with and myself all couldn't believe he couldn't get off the bench.

A week later, I saw on BSPN that LBrown was critical of his work ethic and mentioned he was late to practice because he had to go get frosted tips.

He could have had TChandler's career, but didn't do what it would have took. So yeah, I'm with everyone hanging him out to dry.

Fun historical question: If DET doesn't take him at #2, how far does he drop?

Wow!! I think I understand how Alice must have felt when she fell down the rabbit hole. Darko criticizing any accomplished NBA player reflects a complete suspension of reality.
