Naz Reid hasn't exactly been great lately, but it is funny how the team consistently plays better with him on the floor. Here is his unadjusted +/- since he's been a regular rotation player:
+5, team lost by 7
+2, team won by 27
-2, team lost by 11
0, team lost by 7
+3, team lost by 10
+2, team lost by 12
-3, team lost by 16
+2, team won by 3
+7, team lost by 11
+1, team lost by 20
Then if you add in all of his minutes for the season combined these, he has a team leading +4.9 net rating, mostly because the defense plays better when he's on the court. Imagine that, our defense is better with someone that has some size and strength playing Center.
He certainly isn't a game-changing player, but I think just having a big body that sets good screens, stays in his lane, and blocks guys out means he's more than holding his own.
By the way, our current backup Center, James Johnson, who seemingly is a far more savvy and skilled player that Naz, has one of the team's worst net ratings. Mmmm, may be it's because we AREN'T THE HOUSTON ROCKETS AND NEED TO PLAY ACTUAL NBA-SIZED CENTERS AT CENTER!

Hmmm. Me thinks you are absolutely right. And there's no maybe in that!

The thing that annoys me, is I understand basketball is sort of turning into a no center league. But there is a big difference the Rockets have multiple guys that can attack the rim in Harden and Westbrook, the spacing works great for them because it unlocks westbrook attack to the rim. Now with the Wolves DLO is a jump shooter, he doesn't attack the rim, I would also say Beasley biggest weakness is attacking the rim. So because our two starting perimeter guys are jump shooters and not attackers (Not saying that is terrible ) it negates all the spacing positives the Wolves have when they play small ball with Johnson at C.
I will also say, the Mavs have done this to us in the last 2 games they played. They have had Porzingas guard Okogie or they ran a zone. With doing that Porzingas could just guard the rim what also negates the advantages the wolves could have in theory playing small ball. It shows all the negatives because even though he tries hard Johnson can't guard players like Porzingas (I don't expect him to be able to)

Trying to watch the last couple mins of this one but my main thoughts are:
Wolves aren't good but offensively they have been good and this was one of those games where it wasn't going to happen for them.
Okogie has some really nice plays. That stealing of the tip for the jump ball was awesome. He feels like he is moving towards a Covington type core piece.
Culver did some nice things in this game. The numbers since 2020 are actually somewhat encouraging. I'm actually starting to look forward to how he does the rest of the season and keeps developing.
Also I like Jake Layman. He isn't playing great but I think he is a nice bench player on a relatively cheap deal.
