Point Guard Rumors

No thanks on Jrue Holiday. Injured too often.

No thanks on Jeff Teague. A "meh" player if you ask me.

I'm extremely intrigued by George Hill. Big, above average defender that shoots extremely well from deep (38% career; over 40% the last two seasons). He was a big reason why the Jazz took a huge step forward this season. Even though he'll be 31 this season, I'm all in on going after Hill if we can unload Ricky. If these playoffs showed anything, you need a PG who can consistently knock down shots. Hill can do that.

Thoughts?

I'd still take Jrue over Teague and Hill even with the injuries. He's the best all-around PG of the 3 and he's only 27. I definitely would not take him on a max though which the article mentions. Hill just isn't really a PG. He's a SG in a PG's body. He's not going to break down the defense and dish out 8 assists a game like Jrue. He's gonna move the ball well enough to get 4 maybe 5 assists and then take jumpshots the rest of the time. With Dunn and Tyus on the team I'm ok if Jrue misses 15 or so games to get them extra reps for developement. I'd give Jrue 15-18. If he wants more I'll pass.

I read this earlier and thought it was absurd. Thibs and Laydon have been extremely quiet in terms of what they're going to do, yet somehow a list of three possible replacements for Rubio have leaked? This is nothing more than clickbait IMO, they simply listed a few of the obvious free agent options that could be available in the event Rubio is traded.

The internet is great, so much information available at our fingertips. The internet sucks, so much utter bullshit available at our fingertips.

Right! I remember reading the source info which clearly stated "if Rubio is traded, some likely FA targets would be...".

TheSP, You are a gentleman and a scholar.....and may be even a philosopher.

So even if the source-less rumors are true, is investing $18+M in a PG that is perhaps only slightly better than Rubio really going to move the needle? And then what do we do with Rubio? We'd never get a player of his equivalent value back.

I don't know....feels like we have sort of a bargain at PG right now with Rubio at $14M per year as a legit starting NBA veteran PG and two backups on rookie deals.

We need to plow our assets into forwards that can defend and/or shoot (preferably both).

I agree, Q. And I also agree with SP. This is just typical fake sports news. It has no more credence than reports the Lakers are thinking of passing on Ball. The Lakers are drafting Ball and the Wolves are not going to sign any of those three PGs. Thibs likes Rubio and loves Dunn long term at PG.

Jon K said in his podcast he has heard it may take a max or very near max deal to get Jrue from NO. He said Rubio and Cousins are friends actually but he doesn't see that happening. No way would I want to pay Jrue anything near max even if I thought he would be healthy and I've always liked him and I think he is a good player and would be a good fit here. But that injury history though...it's kind of a deal breaker for me.

If rubio was moved in a trade then I would be all in on Jeff teague first, hill second, and so on. Games played matters and teague has the best track record. Plus he can shoot and dish.

None of them are better than Ricky and will cost more. What a plan!

Frankly I'd just be surprised if anyone threw anything near the max at Jrue. It's the deepest position in the league and a lot of teams blew through most of their cap space last year. I think every player's expectations are high for what they're actually gonna get offered just because they think it's gonna be a run on free agents again like last year. I guess at the end of the day NO has no cap space to sign anyone else so they'll give him a good offer to keep him.
