Final 2017 Wolves Draft Hopes and Predictions
Final 2017 Wolves Draft Hopes and Predictions
I thought I'd start a new, clean thread for our final draft-day hopes and predictions. So here are the two questions. When the draft is over and the clock strikes midnight:
1. Who do you realistically hope will have been added to the roster via draft picks and/or trades? (By realistically, I mean to exclude the pie-in-the-sky fantasies of adding LeBron or ending up with Fultz)
1. Who do you think the Wolves will have added to the roster via draft picks and/or trades and who, if anyone, do you think will have been traded?

Re: Final 2017 Wolves Draft Hopes and Predictions
I listened to the latest podcast with Woj and Givoney. Here are the most significant takeaways.
Frank'n might be dropping and they said if he isn't picked by PG teams in the top 10 they wonder where he falls to.
They said the price even to get into the 50's in the 2nd round was high the full 3 million plus in money and the top half those picks had a lot of value. The split contracts costing less than vet min makes those picks even more valuable.
The top 6 picks seem locked in. Givony though the top 13-14 picks or who goes in that range seems pretty locked in too but of course someone could jump in there.
That's about it. Crean has been watching film of guys like a madman. I really look forward to his analysis of various college players. He was terrific last year.

Re: Final 2017 Wolves Draft Hopes and Predictions
So many options today, but I'm going to go with the least interesting...keeping the 7th pick and drafting a player that fits our needs. And although most think he will go 6th to Orlando (or even earlier), I don't think it's entirely unrealistic that Jonathan Isaac will be balancing a Wolves cap on top of that Afro by 7PM tonight. Even though many say he has as much upside as anyone in this draft, here are the two factors I am hanging my hat on in hoping he is there for us:
1) There seems to be a lot of buzz surrounding Monk and Smith...either one moving into the top 6 increases our chances of landing Isaac.
2) His stats were relatively modest compared to others, including Monk and Smith...only 12 and 7.8.
Perhaps more of a hope than a prediction in some respects, but my pick is Isaac.
I'll pass on predicting what will follow in free agency, because some of that may become clearer after the draft.

Wolves will draft either Dennis Smith or Frank Kitkatvanilla for Dallas. Mavs will draft Zach Collins and find the Wolves a second round pick for this evening and pick someone up to sweeten the pot.

If he drops it could be because of the medicals. Woj and Givoney said agents have been even more aggressive this year but they both think that while a couple teams haven't been able to get his medical info they think he is a lock to go top 6. They also acknowledge that something can throw a wrench into any of their predictions and logic. Lol

Re: Final 2017 Wolves Draft Hopes and Predictions
My hope is we draft Isaac with Zach Collins as a safety net. I'm entering tonight at Barclays fully expecting Lauri Markkanen donning a Wolves draft hat.
I want to see this team be aggressive in terms of getting the top UDFA's to Summer League. Assuming we keep our pick, that's 10 players under contract, 7 of them on rookie deals (Dieng, Rubio and Aldrich being the only ones on bigger deals). Even if we sign 2-3 free agents if lucky, add young cheap talent via UDFA for a change to round out those last couple of spots.
I just see the team drafting at 7 and calling it a night. Any time there's smoke around Thibs /Layden, nothing comes of it. I'll assume this until they actually do something.

Re: Final 2017 Wolves Draft Hopes and Predictions
I'm very much on the same page with Phenom and WildWolf:
1. If any of the "big 3" forwards drop - Isaac, Jackson, or Tatum - we take and keep that player.
2. Assuming they don't drop - and that's my assumption - we take Dennis Smith.
3. We then auction off Dennis Smith to either New York or Dallas, depending on which one took Zach Collins.
4. We end the night with Zach Collins and a 2nd rounder TBD....we may get a future 2nd out of the trade down as well.
Why Zach Collins? Because he has the potential to check ALL THREE of Thibs' keys to improvement - 3-point shooting, toughness, and defense.
Zach, welcome to the Wolves!

I don't care.
I'm just excited to start speculating on what awesome super duper talent the Wolves are gonna land with a high pick in the 2018 draft that will soon lead us to a championship!

Re: Final 2017 Wolves Draft Hopes and Predictions
My prediction is that whatever the Wolves do with the number 7 pick will be a bit of a surprise. Either the player they pick or what trade they make. It won't be shocking but not something expected of the consensus that has been out there.

Re: Final 2017 Wolves Draft Hopes and Predictions
I truly hope the wolves trade the pick for a veteran. Other than the obvious first pick in the draft (Towns) and Flip's pick of Lavine we haven't hit on the draft in over 10 years. I have no faith this year will be any different. With vet you have a pretty good idea of what you are getting before the trade.
