Whats going on with the Clippers?

Post by TeamRicky [enjin:6648771] »

Interesting to hear that Jerry West is joining the Clippers. Coupled with LeBron to LA rumors (Only the Clippers make sense, as the Lakers don't have much veteran talent) and the upcoming potential free agency of CP3 and Blake, I think West is brought in to try to not only keep CP3 and Blake but create a future superteam in 2018. Can the Clippers afford all 4 stars? The best way to accomplish that I think is to convince CP3 and Blake to take one year deals (they don't even need to sign new contracts, but could just waive their ETO rights) and then sign LeBron next offseason before resigning their own free agents. Can this work? How good would CP3, Lebron, Blake and Jordan be?

I don't pay as close attention to this aspect of the league at I used to but what would Griffins and CP3s cap hold be in this scenario? I would think that it would be prohibitive to getting LeBron on a max.

I wouldn't be surprised if LeBron takes significantly less than the max to make it work. I think he is more concerned with his legacy than dollars. He wants to try for more titles. He already makes a ton with endorsements and I think he sees a post-career future in the film or entertainment industry, so I don't see his salary as the primary factor.

Lebron literally said he's not accepting anything less than max from now on because of the bad precedent his Miami contract was when he came back to Cleveland. He along with Chris Paul are arguably the 2 biggest arguers that there should be no max contract cap and players should get their exact worth. No way Lebron goes there without a max.

The Clippers are desperate, and made the best choice they could have in getting West. I don't think getting West immediately signals a super team in 2019. I wouldn't be surprised if West coaxes them to rebuild. They're up against the wall with players who can't stay healthy.

Homer take. If LeBron wants to match up with the Warriors he needs to make his way to Minnesota. A Wolves team with the Ricky "Curry stopper" Rubio, a big man who can make them pay for playing Draymond at the 5 in KAT and the firepower of our current big 3 would give him arguably his best chance. In addition LeBron is the playoff tested veteran leader this team needs. Get it done Thibs

Get ready for some backlash from all the people here who said we shouldn't sign Durant last summer because it would limit our opportunities in the future.

Forget LeBron or KD. I overheard Glen at a restaurant say that his masterplan was to sign the SP.

Heh, I can't even remember Durant's name coming up as it seemed so unrealistic. A number of us were breathlessly hoping that we could sign "stars" like Horford or Deng.

Of course we ended up doing what seems to be an annual tradition for the Wolves - we signed a couple of solid vet free agents that came here and they immediately became less impactful and less utilized than they were with their prior teams. Of course!
