Exactly, and if the team is this gun shy about cap space then they should never tout it and to anyone who ever said cap space was meaningless and useless here, they were right.

I agree with both of these sentiments. It is a bad look as a franchise to not go out and get the best talent possible. The common factors of all the successful teams in the NBA is that they spend when they need to. Yes the Spurs saved money on their bench, but they signed Aldrich when they needed to, Pau this year. And I will guarantee they will go after a top tier free agent this summer. If Glen is too cheap to extend Lavine so be it, but if we're going up against the cap anyway, I rather it be with the organization showing they're going after the best talent possible to make a real run at legitimacy.
On a side note, even if we maxed Ibaka or Milsap, are we really interfering with our real shot? As I see it we aren't even really going to have a chance until the Warriors start to decline. Their core with Durant is still under 30, that means at least 4-5 years more of dominance. We will have lots of time after we shed Ibaka/Milsap's contract to retool around our core. At least get us in the mix for now so we taste just how much further we have to go.
I honestly believe it's impossible to match Golden State's current level of talent through natural means. I mean, the planets aligned beautifully for them, starting with Curry's last contract. Then Durant waltzes in to chase a ring. It's simply not possible to realistically assemble that level of talent in a planned way.
One thing we CAN do is build a winning team and culture, then hope we get lucky along the way....
So...what are the names of these big time FA that would would look to spend big money on? So far it seems like they are Ibaka and Millsap who else are we considering a possibility in that tier?
This is probably a dumb question but can anyone name a player that left a team via free agency to a worse team (lottery team) for around max money that worked.

I can think of amare, was good for a year
I don't know about the past, but we're gonna see it when PG13 goes to the Lakers next summer.

LeBron
With both the Heat and the Cavs.
Heat were a 5 seed before LBJ joined.
The only reason I asked is first I couldn't think of names of players that fit it. And we talk about Milsap (who I would love) but NBA history suggests max players don't switch teams to lotto teams
