That's my feeling too. This guy has a place in the NBA. Monk and smith are way more appealing to me because of their athleticism but Markennen is not the end of the world, and he certainly seems to have some quality footwork.

End of the world? No, I agree. But a terrible disappointment if that's what Thibs does with our #7 pick. A short-armed 7-footer who averaged 0.4 blocks and 0.5 steals per game in college, isn't good defensively and lacks toughness is the last thing this team should want with a #7 pick.

Take Monk if you want shooting because he has the other-worldly athleticism and pre-college experience as a lead ballhandler to potentially develop into something more than just a scorer. And unlike Markkenan, Monk is a big-time shot taker/maker from a college program that tends to turn out successful NBA players who show more complete games in the NBA than shown in college. Otherwise, if your due diligence tells you not to worry about his motor, then take Dennis Smith who has the physical tools to become an elite NBA PG.

If you don't want Monk or Smith at #7, then trade down and take Zach Collins or trade down even lower and take John Collins.

But Markkenan?? Yuck!!

I don't have the background info that NBA teams have on Dennis Smith and this is a terrific PG draft but man I think he has more upside than anyone we expect to be available at 7. I wasn't really high on him but I started looking into him more and I came away more impressed with him. I think the best thing for him is to go to a team like Dallas or the Kings where he can play a lot. I still feel a little greedy about adding a top young talent with this pick.

I've been watching a lot of Smith videos this week. He quick and powerful. Reminds me of Baron Davis. It's all about his motor. Typically, doubts about a prospects motor in public draft reviews have been pretty prophetic. However, we have to trust Thibs and company and assume they're doing very thorough due diligence. Smith is a great talent and I'd love to see us draft him if Thibs is satisfied that there aren't any serious motor/attitude issues.

Well, if Markannen is Thibs pick at #7, I will concede he knows more than I do, and what his plans are for the team. So I will not complain.

But my own perspective on the draftees does not have Markannen rated higher than Monk.

Watch the Markkenan v. Rabb video on draftexpress. I just don't see Markkenan as anything more than a perimeter shooter off the bench. He's terrible defensively and looked overmatched by Rabb -- a guy likely to go in the late 1st or early 2nd round. My personal draft board has a big "STAY AWAY" sign on Markkenan.

I don't watch college ball so I can only go by what I've read, and what I've read suggests Markkenan is a taller Adam Morrison, a great college shooter who's not athletic enough to make it in the NBA.

Good comparison.

I don't think that's fair to Markkanen. Morrison didn't shoot the 3 well till his junior season. There is also a pretty big difference between a typical somewhat meh athletic wing player and a guy that's a legit 7' that can shoot 3's well. I'm saying this and I don't want to draft the guy.

Wrong. I love Markkanen and would take him over Isaac. Rip away.

I prefer markannen over monk rather easily. His offensive game is mostly perimeter oriented, but it is fantastic for a 7 footer. Comes of a screen like rip, has an extremely quick releaee, and has dribblinf ability that is far undervalued at his size. He also is not slow footed like many seem to say. If you watch his tape it is obvious that his defensive deficiencies are far more about technique than anything else. He overshoots his closeouts far too often. Rememver he also was an 18 yesr old transitioning to the US game. His rebounding does give me pause, because he definitely is a ball watcher vs. A Go getter. That is my only large issue with him. Luckily we have KAT, Dienf, and Rubio for that. I'd choose him over monk and Zach Collins. I'd take any of the 3 SFs over him, DSJ over him assuming we trade rubio, and if there is a trade back I am taking OG or Jarrett Allen.

There are so many guys I would take before Markkanen in this draft. I'd take a chance on Giles before I started Markkanen. I think he's gonna be garbage.
