Intruiging player Ricky thanks for mentioning him. It just seems the game of basketball is just evolving bigtime with all kinds of lengthy guys having a lot of skills.
Collins played behind the winningest player in college basketball D-1 history in Przemek Karnowski, who was a 5th year Senior (seriously, he's won 136 games at Gonzaga). Had Collins been on almost any other team, he easily would have started.
I don't think Collins is ready to contribute much at the NBA level yet, but you could see that he was the far superior prospect compared to the big guy ahead of him. He's an aggressive player, which made him foul-prone, but he got a lot of blocks, rebounds, and baskets in limited playing time. He'd be a worthy project for any team that drafts him.
I really like Gonzaga's Collins, but I'd seriously consider trading down and drafting the other Collins out of Wake Forest depending what other assets we could get in return. Perhaps we could land another pick that we could use to take a guy like Jonathan Jeanne. Or maybe we could pick up a solid vet.
It is hard trading down that far in draft. Like both Collins as prospects, but Zach seems looks to have better odds of being elite. Our history of trading down in the first is pretty mixed.

Uh, our history in the draft is mixed, to put it generously, no matter what we do.

I think of Year we traded down for Love. We killed that in long run. The year we traded down for Shabazz and Dieng we looked good the first year, but not good now.

I'd say that 2nd trade down you mentioned was a mixed bag too. Dieng and Bazz are NBA rotation players. I've seen the Wolves and other teams do much worse. I really liked that Russian wing and he is out of the league. Also remember when that draft sucked? Look at some of the players from that draft now. There are a bunch of guys I would like on my team and they didn't show it right away.

Lip's instinct to take McCollum straight up that year ended up being dead on. We thought Saunders made the right move after the first year or two, but now it looks like he should have just taken the kid from Lehigh. He's actually turned into a halfway decent defender now too. Ugh.
The true hindsight picks would have been Giannis and Gobert, but there were legitimate question marks at the time. McCollum was more of a known entity and probably the BPA at that pick.
